My son is vacationing in NAPA Valley this week. He got out of school, worked in NYC, moved to LA for six months, moved to Atlanta for 2 years, moved back to NYC three years ago, this is his first vacation.
Ian works in a restaraunt and deals with a lot of wine distributors and salespeople. "Hey, seeing you're going, call this number tell them I sent you ...."
He got a rental car and asked for a stick. The only thing they have with a stick is a Mini; OK you get the Mini for the price of an econobox. Cool.
He stayed (Ithink) at the Robert Mondavi vinyards in a two bedroom home on the grounds. He got a tour of the place, when he arrived they said the 2:30 and the 4:00 tours are full; he gave them his name and explained that he made reservations for 2:30. Two minutes later a guy introduces himself a Dana and I'll be your tourguide. Ian & Kim got a one on one tour with Dana, all the fields, down to the room with the barrels, wine and brie coming out your ears. "Dad, I've been here two days and haven't cracked open my wallet." The stay and meals are paid for by the vinyard. He'll spend a day or two in three or four places. Can you bring wine on a plane.
He says it's gorgeous there with excellent motorcycle roads. I've asked him to put up photos here when he gets back.

And the problem is?............................
Is it wrong that the only part I really noticed in that story is how he was able to rent a car with a manual transmission?
Yes, you can bring wine on a plane, but you have to check it, so it's work getting a suitcase specifically designed to handle wine, with a +10 to TSA and baggage handler defense.

I like Feel Good stories like this.
me too.. they seem so rare. Good for your son, sounds like he needed this vacation
Napa Vally is one of my favorite places on Earth... god, it's beautiful.
If anybody heads out there, please visit the Truchard Vineyards. No connection, but they run a very grassroots operations, and a friendly one at that (very cool cave-tour!). My favorite of the 5 vineyards I visited last spring.
Oh and the chard wasn't bad, either.
My job has some pretty cool perks.
Free vacations are not one of them. Wish they were!
Going there in a couple of weeks. Talked my wife into letting me drag the track car behind for some fun time at Infineon.
Today and tomorrow he's staying at this place's pool house.

Check out the wine train, that'll give the bride a boost after watching you have a good time.

Thanks for posting this Dan - The wife and I will be in Napa in May for a week.
I might also suggest Cheateau Elan Near Atlanta Ga. Its a winery, that just happens to be owned by and only a stones throw away from Road Atlanta (in the link, "C" is the nascar track across from RA, and "G" is The Chateau - I went for my anniversary a year ago, and you could hear the V8s screaming WOT out of the hairpin while playing golf...it was GLORIOUS!!!!)...that and their "scarlet" Cab is pretty damn good, and I dont even like wine.
perks? The airlines still give free little snacks on my flights. I also get to see all the "industrial" areas of Detroit, Gary, Cleveland, St. Louis, Dayton, Ohio and Flint, Michigan.
Napa where?
Hey. How come the links don't work?

I'd assume its because he has his facebook profile set to private.
That's what I'd think to but I think you can still link to the pictures if you don't involve the profile.
I'm computer stupid, let him put them up.
