Any barrier unless bolted in and beefy will collapse in a crash. If just to keep the dog in the hatch almost any will do. Check the Center for Pet Safety. I'd link the site but the link button is not working for me.
Custom fit guards are worth the money. The 'universal' one I tried was complete garbage.
