Thankfully that one's dying. It was bad about 5 years ago, and if you change just one letter, and make it probly, I could live with that.

Not grammar per se, but I'm done with "just sayin'". Shelve it next to "don't go there" and "you go, girl".

As for grammar--I hate when people say "__ and myself"

God, I hope none of you actually use slang in your day to day speech patterns. But, the fact is, most of you do.

slang is one one thing and has nothing to do with any of the complaints so far.

And slang can be grammatically correct.

I don't consider it slang when people don't know the correct usage of ... I vs me
as in ... just between you and I ... makes my skin crawl

and the phrase " I could care less " (I'm 99+% sure they really mean "I couldn't mean less"

I grew up in the Archie Bunker era with my grammar intact. Kids and texting changed that forever. OMGs, IMHOs, LOLs and LMFAOs (yes, that's dinosaur era now) opens the door for me to take my swipe at degrading the English language. Y'all prolly ain't gonna like dat.

This seems to come up every year or so.

Mine is brakes/breaks. Brakes are what are on cars to stop with. Break is the rest I take between projects. Break is also what I do to something when I get mad at it and throw it against the wall. Or drop a glass and it breaks.

I'm no grammar expert by any means and screw up grammar once in a while myself but obvious ones are annoying.

Now back to your regularly scheduled first day of July, joined already in-progress....

I thought the anxiousness arose from the conflict of not being where you want...

There was an article in the local newspaper today about postcards, and how when they were first invented back in 1865 some people thought they would be the downfall of literacy and grammar. http://www.startribune.com/opinion/commentaries/213906191.html So, I guess we've been on a downward slide for an awful long time now.

Next time I'll just ax someone else. Someone asked how my wife was doing and I said she was doing good. A member of the grammar police overheard me and said "No, she is doing WELL". I said they were wrong. She wasn't doing very well, but she was teaching helper monkeys to change catheters, which was good.

My wife and I say that--along with "for all intensive purposes"--intentionally. I try to only do it between us (and maybe people who know we mean to do it), though. She once said it around people we didn't know at a get-together and got the "OMG you're a moron" look. That's when I told her not everyone was in on the joke.

bastomatic wrote: If you want to nitpick, the word "grammar" refers to a language's construction of sentences, and the function of words. You're really complaining about usage, which regards the accepted meaning of words among native speakers of a language. Anxious is grammatically correct in that situation, regardless of whether you agree with the usage. Maybe I should say "irregardless" and really tick people off.

Yeah! Usage, bitch!
