I went back to an older post of mine that had images stored in Photobucket, and I found no pictures in it. It seems as if Photobucket got greedy and is demanding $60 per month for third party hosting. Fudge.
Now I'll have to go to all the trouble of downloading those photos and finding another picture hosting site. Any suggestions?
If you figure out how to get them back so you can reuse them, puleeeezzzee let me know.

I was able to download my pics that I wanted to keep. Just can't link to them without paying.

Photoberkit is something put together by Stampie and ECM helps him run it. That is one option.
I refused to pay the ransom for all of 400 pics. I downloaded everything from Photobucket overnight. 3-4 a.m. finally worked after failed attempts since midnight, musta been high traffic from folks bailing out.
I don't mind paying a reasonable amount/ month. After recommendations from other members and sites I went w/ a Smugmug pay plan for about $70/ year. There are cheaper plans too. Using their Android app also. I'm very pleased so far.

I use Flikr. Interface isn't the greatest but it's not bad for free. integrated app on my phone, too.

Same here. It also has the benefit of not being blocked at work, so I can post pictures during lunch. Photobucket and many of the others are blocked, so I can't see the pictures in those threads at work.
imgbb.com has been working for me.
I downloaded all mine and just uploaded them imgur. If those links fail eventually, it's all good but I won't do that marathon again. I just don't feel like paying for it and photobucket was OK while it lasted. The last few years it was so buggy/spammy even free was barely worth it.
Both Flickr and imgur specifically spell out in the terms of use that they do not want people using them for third party hosting. I didn't want to risk it again so I found one that didn't have anything like that in their terms of use.

Then what is their reason for existing?

Not to mention (Flickr at least) will provide you the code to embed the image elsewhere....
never really used imgur

I agree. And so did photobucket. But it's in the terms of service.
Anybody having luck downloading their albums? I can't seem to do it, always throws an error, I tried disabling ad block and got a memory leak that eventually crashed the tab, still get the same "Something didn't click" error trying to race the leak.

No luck here either. I've tried a few different times and no luck. Seems like they are attempting to blackmail people into spending the dough to have access to YOUR pics, either to download or use.
we got a crap load on there

I had no issues downloading mine. I didn't have a ton on there though.
I've tried downloading mine several times on my mac & win10 box with no luck. The furthest I get is about 1/2-way across the progress bar, then a header pops up saying there was an error and to try again.
Starting at midnight I had fails for over three hours of trying, finally worked at 3:30 a.m.
I've moved 50%, I'm deleting a lot as I go though. 2500 to go.
I'm using the app and selectively downloading the important ones and then dumping my phone to my external hard drive. When done i'm nuking my account
I thought about deleting all my pics and nuking my account, but I figure there's a chance that some day they'll pull their head out of their ass(after losing most of their customers) and reverse this policy.
I should elaborate on that memory leak, it was BIG, like 6 gigs and climbing when I did it again and watched.

They'll pull their heads out exactly as fast as the user base leaves, user numbers are everything to these companies.

Even if they do I'm done with them. I really enjoyed hitting that delete account button.
I have kept local copies of all of my uploaded images. As luck would have it, Photobucket is still working for me, but anything new I post is going on Smugmug. Over the next few months I'll move everything over to them.
