My experience with Farmers has been satisfactory. I've been both a claimant and an insured.

My wife and I have been with State Farm for over 20 years and they have been great with the few claims we have had.

My feeling is that the agent is more important than the company for the most part.

Not trying to criticize you but I do not understand this thinking having worked in insurance claims for as many years as I have. An agent's job is to SELL you insurance. The vast majority of them stop after the sale. Good ones will help you out with a claim as much as they can but I have to tell you as a appraiser/adjuster 90% of the time agents meddling just caused more trouble than help. Few understand the claims process. I can count on one hand how many agents I did NOT dread calling me when a client had a claim.

This, 100 times this.

ex-State Farm claims adjuster

Also, don't ever threaten them with a lawyer. We loved it. It meant I no longer had to talk to a member of the general public who wasn't intelligent enough to read and understand a contract.

I'll toss out there that the random adjuster handling your claim can make or break the worse or best of situations. I've dealt with great ones, and horrible ones, from the same company. I've even been switched from one to the other while processing the same claim. No rhyme or reason I've ever been able to detect regarding how wonderfull or horrible the particular adjuster is.

I don't have much to add except this:

I've had State Farm for a long time, but only 1 or 2 claims that I can remember. So, I don't know that my experience counts for much.

Had no issues with progressive handling our claims the past few years.

I do have an issue with their 4 vehicle limit per policy. 2 drivers in our household. Attempting to add vehicle #5 I was told they need to create a new policy for it..separate bill..separate billing date. Kind of a pain in the ass on my end. Before we went that route I ended up dropping another one of the vehicles to make room for the new one. Any of these other companies have a limit like that? Been thinking of shopping around but that's really my only progressive complaint.
