Okay, so what's the deal with Forza 3 online? When I was playing 2, I could create a "public" lobby, where I could turn off the traction assists & "suggested line", and that kind of stuff usually got the "Halo players" to quit really quick.
I've clicked on every button I can find in 3, but can't do a damn thing. I can't even turn the damage on, or extend the race finish timer. The stupid thing will allow me to set up something called a "private" lobby, but since I work off-hours, I can only seem to race against the one or two people on my friend list who are awake at that hour...and even then, only after sending a game invite. Also, I can't make tuning tweaks in the race lobby..I have to get out of the thing just to make a tire pressure adjustment.
I really like 3...there are many more cool cars to be had, the physical model is even better than in 2, and I think even the paint program is better. I'm having a blast in career mode (and even the fictional tracks are much better than in 2), but I just can't seem to find what I need to do to make an online race anything other than an opportunity for the moronic "videogamers" to ruin everything for everyone else.
The instruction manual that came with the game is no help at all...what am I doing wrong?
hey, what are all of your gamer tags? I should be getting some time to play soon I go by bcbrownell on XBL. if you send me an invite, include something about GRM in a message though, so I know who you are.
yea this has been a big issue since the game came out. It's kind of redic that you can't tune your car in game. You have to save multiple tunes for one car and load them up in game (multiplayer) and that's about it. I usually on race in private lobbies anyways but when I don't want to, I liked to join a different lobby, this totally random incoherent system they have now is useless. You usually get stuck in a game with a bunch of asshats and yea. Turn10 kindof took a few steps backwards
Sounds like a problem with your physical copy of the game, I suggest you mail it to me for further study.
I haven't really played online any. I got bored with the single player after I played for a while. I actually fired up the ps2 and played gran turismo 4 today.
For some reason, it's mainly the cars that I'm bored with. All of the high end stuff really doesn't excite me, I guess because I'll never be able to afford any of it anyways. I do enjoy driving my stock miata, (which sadly I can't afford in real life either).

Dude, I've done some more research into the online problems with FM3.
Trust me, in about two weeks, you'll find it for about $16 in the used games bin at your local Gamestop. It's a damn shame, really. So much of this game is absolutely awesome..as long as you only care about `playing with yourself'..
Unfortunately, there's nothing wrong with your copy of the game. Most of the speculation, and mine too, is that Microsoft came down with this change to the game for Turn 10. In FM2, there were plenty of 4 or 5 person lobbies, meaning lots of wasted server space. Microsoft wanted the same number of online players in fewer lobbies.
Luckily, now it seems like Call of Duty MW2 has pulled away all the "If I can't win, you aren't either" drivers. I had a really good time in a D class public lobby on Friday night. Guys were still using the assists and leaderboard cars against me, but it was good racing.
Yeah, the public lobby nonsense in Forza 3 enrages me. I haven't even played it online more than a few times. That's all I used to do with Forza 2.
Actually, I think I'm going to go play online now. You know. While I'm waiting for my laundry to finish...

Join our GT4 league. There's a few of us that do a weekly competition. I'm still working on tallying the last "season's" results, but then we'll be going head into another.
I just ended up racing on Tsukuba Long twice and one other track once. You end up doing the same three berkeleying tracks all day in these auto-lobbies.
thank god i've got a decent group of online friends to play with on there, if you guys ever see me on, just join up or ask for an invite.
I'm generally on Live every night or so, but not always playing Forza 3.
I usually run with a group of friends in F3 and we have a good system of making sure we have close races.
My gamertag is Chester Rumble with a space in between. Drop me a message and let me know you're from the GRM boards.

I just seem to be on different hours than y'all, since I work 2nd shift. DirtyBird, I seem to always miss you by about an hour. I built an E9 for your A Class vintage races, but I'm still trying to tune the snap oversteer out of it (I'm beginning to think the problem is the trigger finger.. ).

Yeah, I hardly see anyone on either. Doesn't help that the girlfriend cannot abide the sound of car racing games, so I can't play that much anyway.
On thing I've noticed Forza greatly lacking is the ability to add box flares. Especially on older cars. After making a 510 with goofy power from an engine swap, I really want to be able to throw box flares and even wider tires on the car. Same goes for the 914. I want an engine swapped 914 with giant box flares.
For those who don't have me on their friends list my name is (gasp): Salanis42

Wild stuff. I was actually on Fri as well, but was running F cars (how do they keep them under 200pi with the 4WD conversion?!?!) . What's your Gamertag? I'm always looking for GRM folks online.

Wade, there are some cool "GRM style" cars in there if you stick with it in career mode long enough. The reason I bought FM2 in the first place was that I heard it had three things GT4 (which I love) didn't: the Mk.2 VW Golf, the VW Corrado, and Road Atlanta.
FM3's got some great older cars, including old GRM standards like the original Miata and the Fox chassis Ford Mustang.
I'd rather play FM3 than some of the PC sims I've had/have. Honestly, I never thought console games would ever get this good. Maybe that's why I hate how badly they've screwed up the online...
And like I said, I've actually researched this problem since I made my original post. It doesn't look like they're going to fix the thing..all of the responses by folks from Turn 10 say things like "..we're trying to bring the racers and videogamers closer together..". Ugh. I just spent eight months on Forza 2 online trying to figure out how to keep us further apart.
And I've also noticed the numbers of folks playing FM2 on XBL going back up as the numbers on FM3 shrink...

If you take the Rabbit GTi, which starts at a PI of 139, and swap in the AWD drivetrain, it takes the PI down to 100 for some reason. The PI must be based on Power/Weight ratio only. There's no reason to think that making a GTi AWD would hurt it by some 35%.
And the gamertag is racerfink.
new g/f has partially torn me away from this game....although I have been taking projects for the trans am over to her place so I'm being somewaht more productive on my real race car lol. I might be on later tonight.
My gamer tag is captslowGRM.
Thus far I have been fairly shy about trying to get private games set up, mostly because the headset that came with my 360 was only good at generating static.
However I just got myself a nice wireless headset that seems to work great!
I just played this game online for the second time since I bought it couple nights ago. Hopefully I'll get on more, but I'm just tryin to grind through the career mode when I'm not playin MW2, or doing something else.
gt is SR204G63
And to whoever this may concern, since FM3 has been repped in the pages of our beloved magazine, how about you guys try and convince Turn10 to ensure that every car in the top 25 list you recently published is in there. Namely the 1st gen SE-R and 1st gen DSMs. I'm sick of not being able to drive my real life cars in a game.

The odd thing is...now that you've told me that trick, I want to do it myself. I'd love to build one of those things and make the "gamerz" sweat a little bit. I guess I'm still a racer after all (insert Donahue's "Unfair Advantage" here.. )
FR request coming your way, after the roomie stops playing Halo.. I'm "friedgreencorrado" on XBL as well. Ignore the bad rep, the roomie lost his account, and I've been letting him play on mine, since it's his box in the first place.
My screen name is "Gimpstang" on XBL. I usually just make a private lobby and invite any of my friends who are online. I tried the public lobby thing but couldn't tolerate it either. When are we going to get up a GRM racing league? I loved the FM2 Spec Mini series

Lets do it. I am fairly new to the Xbox how did you guys manage it in forza2?
