So, because I show up with a clean painted SB/BB Camaro/Chevelle/Nova/Malibu/Mustang/Dart/Charger/Barracuda, I am a "redneck"? Stereotype much?
Not what he said. Project much?
Pinks needs real "trash talk". That is where the fun/game is.

Then what did he say?
I've watched drag racing on TV for too many years. 11 sec imports or anything else that runs 11's is BORING translated to TV, even edited down like what is seen in NHRA Sportsman coverage or PassTime. This is why you don't see imports on drag racing shows, unless it is in the "Hey look at that silly "ricer" trying to race and did nothing but break just past the 60' clock" highlight reel.
I don't mind the show once in a while, but I'm not hooked on it.
The episode where they ran 4 cars side by side was kind of interesting (I had never seen that before).
But for a while Speed Channel was airing it all day, every day, with breaks for NASCAR, so I got a little bored with it :P
The girl that wrangles cars to grid is a cutie though. :)
Ok let's be serious here. "Redneck" doesn't really have anything to do with what you drive, it's how you carry yourself. Pinks was FULL of rednecks.
I am amused that using the term Redneck got you hot and bothered, and then you throw out "ricer" in pretty much the next post.
Granted, most of the import owners on Pinks WERE ricers. But there were certainly some that weren't. The grey MKiii Supra comes to mind, the 2jz swapped Cressida comes to mind, etc etc etc...
Imports weren't the only cars breaking on that show. I seem to remember the show that my buddy Dan "BurnyD" and the Pittspeed crew were on with their 240sx that they had to race two different Mustangs on because the first had a spectacular failure.
Then they proceeded to E36 M3 all over the second one.
(Yeah, so the 240 was LSx powered, whatever!!
)
At the end of the day, the creators of "Pinks" chose who was on the show. It's not like they had a shortage of imports that just wanted to run their mouths and not race. It's much the same as what we're seeing with "R U Fast3r uhhhhh 'den a Redneck?"

Actually, PINKS was full of dumbasses, not just "rednecks", both in front of the camera as well as behind it. Agree?
It wasn't "redneck", it was that imports would make it "better" when they don't, unless it is on the broken down highlight reel. Demographics prove that wrong. Just ask Ray Iddings and see if that statement is wrong.
As to the "ricer" label, would you rather I have said, "wrong wheel drive non-racer bent on emptying the local Autostoned/PepBoys accessory aisle for everything that is blingy with no performance value"? That is why I put in quotes to just use a shorter description.
PS- I am just in a posting mood because nursing school starts next week and it will severely limit my posts for the coming weeks.

I dunno... some of the best episodes had Imports on them, but that's just like... my opinion, man.
My suspicion as to why not a lot of imports is that street level performance cars are not as interesting to watch. In order to get to a more interesting speed, that means a lot of power. A lot of power cheap is either a big turbo, or a big V8. If you go V8, a lot easier to just start with a car that had one.
Straight rear axles are also preferred, also easier to just start with one that has one. A lot of imports are FWD, FWD plus a lot of power gets silly pretty quickly.
They did have a good number of imports on Pinks, but Pink all out seems to focus on much faster cars which, as noted above, will have far fewer imports.
That said. The pinks that I have seen, the imports make it a lot more interesting, the FC I mentioned previously as an example.

There's been some big advancements in imports in the last 13 years, huh?
I don't have SPEED anymore, but I actually used to enjoy a buzzed evening on the couch watching Pinks - and Pinks "all-out" was a much better show. Less fluff and short shifts, and more close racing...with the occasional hilarious blowout by a driver with good strategy.
LOVED pass-time. Me and my brother would wrench on the Challenge car till the wee hours, then throw a buck or two on the table for each pass. I think I could've made some $$$ on that show.
Yes, it borders on "trash-tv," but doesn't pretty much all TV? I'd much rather watch either of those shows than NASCAR or F1. YMMV.

So, which one of your trucks do you drive down to the local 1/4 mile the track and run 10's in?
None. Yet. And what is this 1/4 mile track that is "local" you speak of? Unless local means 2hrs one way away. Closest track is 1/8th mile and still 1.5 hrs one way. :sadpanda:
I don't see how rednecks and ricers are mutually exclusive. I have seen my fair share of redneck ricers in Cavaliers, Neons, and Hondas.

Redneck ricer is worst redneck.
I've seen redneck ricers in T-types, Mustangs, Camaros, all kinds of trucks.
Makes me vomit.

I can't wait for VW to sell a pickup in the US. We'll see one on 24" rims with mudders, stanced and cambered, with a rusty hood, roof rack, and truck nutz, all on the same car. It will be epic.

I actually don't mind pinks all out.....they pretty much just pick an idex class at general random.
The host guy is still a douche canoe, but watching him eat it on the bike made me
That's another point that ticked me off, speaking of Imports vs. Domestics airtime on the show.
I was AT Pinks All Out when they came to Indy.
I think if you watch the show, there was a grand total of two imports shown through the whole qualifying coverage.
There was a surprisingly high percentage of imports there. 30-40% were imports.
I only remember two breaking. (Both DSMs.) There were MANY breakages in general though.
In reply to Swank Force One:
I went to the PAO @ Bristol the one year and I counted 3 imports out of 400 cars there. I seem to recall one clean pass, still a slow 11 sec "no weight tincan" out of the 5 passes the 3 of them combined for the whole weekend.
So, I assume, YMMV?

the pinks at Indy was delayed by a tornado warning wasn't it?
I have less then zero interest in that show.

YMMV for sure...
But the point is that the show isn't necessarily NOT showing imports because they don't show up or can't make a pass without breaking.
They're NOT showing imports because the show is catered to the good old boys who like their blue ovals and bow ties, because they've had events where the imports DO show up.
We had some FAST imports here, too.
