We used to weld metal hoses at one hose shop I worked at and they ignored the F (fuel) and just threw on whatever had in stock - most had no idea.

Npt is self sealing so zip it in as far as you want, remove, apply sealer, reinstall. Kidding but not, done it more than I'd like to admit. Esp with steel hex plugs in alum.

Either way, they can be tapped deeper.
I've seen that more often than not!
As a former machinist, I've always preferred it to over tapped! (For obvious reasons!)
I've also ran into WAY to many supposedly "journeymen" that , amazingly, can't tell the difference in a tapered thread, and a straight thread.
Once had a a guy attempt to rig a large air operated valve, from the air vent port in the top (3/8 NPT w/plastic vent fitting) , by threading a (I think ) 5/8 eye bolt in it
Fortunately, despite many telling him not to do that, it ripped out long before it lifted enough to fall and hurt/kill anyone.
Yes, he had provided previous quals., was making the same money as me, did not get fired for it, and sat in the office the rest of the job, not allowed to work on stuff (billable hours, baby!)
it's a shame I'm proud of what I do for work, cause the companies suck!

Since everyone likes pictures, here's what I'm dealing with.
3/8 NPT hex head plug fully tightened
3/8 recessed hex plug fully tightened
I hate square head plugs. The Allen heads are nicer, but I have always prefers the look of the hex head... sitting just bairly proud , of course! Tap (or die work) for correct fit and send it!

Anything higher pressure fuel or hyd. related, always got MS (straight thread/o-ring) fittings, so never saw a fitting with the F on the end. Cool to know.
