Heading up for a show next month at "Pyramid Scheme," which looks to be a pretty rad bar-cade type layout. Thinking about renting something on VRBO vs. a hotel, based on in-town hotel reviews. Meeting an old friend who is also flying a godzillion miles for a stupid rock & roll show, so we're gonna hang for a couple days.
Good bar, food, lodging, weird-ass fun stuff (non-car-related) suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

You could check out Founders brewery.

Holy E36 M3snacks. They're in GR!?!? So there IS some KBS in there somewhere, I just need to find the right person to hold at gunpoint? (They do give you a free gun at the Detroit airport, right?)
Yep, Founders is in GR. Also check out Brewery Vivant, they make some good stuff. Or if you want a decent bar with great food and tons of taps there is Hop Cat, probably the best bar in the state. Once you're good and drunk stumble over to Yesterdog for a late night snack. For breakfast definitely check out Wolfgangs.
Excellent. Thanks for the suggestions. Any ideas on where to stay If I don't go the VRBO route? It'd be cool if we could just walk everywhere.
I think I got kin-fold in GR. If you see someone that looks like me, say "Hi."
holiday inn express. By far the least expensive option and it is right by everything

I have KBS in my fridge right now. Is this hard to acquire elsewhere?

Yes. Like "people stand in line for an hour to buy the one bottle they're limited to" hard. And take that E36 M3 outta the fridge, ya filthy heathen! ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/crazy-18.png)
If you go to Hopcat you're required to buy some "crack fries", get the cheese sauce on the side too.
Regarding KBS, good luck, I got one bottle last season, thirdhand, and I ended up paying ~$10 for it, nearly worth it though.
Best beer store in town, and possibly on earth, is Siciliano's Market, 2840 Lake Michigan Dr NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504

Less interested in "The cheapest possible option." More interested in staying somewhere free of the riff-raff for ~$100/night. I found a pretty rad place on VRBO, but trying to figure out an in-town option where we wouldn't have to drive.
I live in Grand Rapids.
Yep. Check out the breweries. Founders, Vivant, and Perrin is also very good.
Culturally inclined? Frederick Meijer Gardens is cool with the butterfly exhibit right now.
Pyramid Scheme is cool, walk across the street to Stella's for great burgers and even more 80's vintage arcade games.
The public museum is pretty cool.
Hit me up, I can join you for a beer later in the evenings.
www.grnow.com for events.
What are you doing at pyramid scheme?
My favorite part of this thread is that in the home town of Amway and likely within walking distance of the Amway Convention Center there is a bar called The Pyramid Scheme.
Genius!
Let me know when you are in town Mike, I will make sure to catch up with you

HUM is playing there. They're pretty much the last on my "Always missed them when they were together and would kill to see them live" list.
Any other thoughts? I'm headed up Friday.

Oh...If you enjoy MG History, go see John Twistie at University Motors.

GR resident here too.
If you like beer, there's beer for days here. Breweries everywhere (the city wasn't named "Beer City USA" for nothing): http://www.experiencegr.com/blog/something-goods-brewing-in-grand-rapids/

Agree to hit Stella's for a burger as well.
Great food in the area.

Wait, WHAT?!
How did I miss this!
One of my top favoritest bands of all time. I went and saw them when they did a reunion show in Chicago in 2011.
EDIT: Dammnit. Sold Out! Have to find tickets.
I came here to say beer but I think that's been covered. Hope you enjoy your time in Michigan.

I know you said non car related... but, 24 Hours of Lemons is at Gingerman this weekend:
https://www.24hoursoflemons.com/events-results/article/144-the-cure-for-gingervitis
It's no more than one hour flat to Gingerman from downtown GR.
Score! They released 20 more tickets and I nabbed 2 tonight.
Rock! ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/laugh-18.png)
