Plastic tubing used in home construction with an OD of 3" or slightly more?

Anyone know of any? The "nominal 2.5 inch" PVC is just about 2.9" OD which isn't enough, the same size is used for ABS drain pipe.

It must be used for home construction and not automotive uses. Even though that's what I'm using it for...but I'm trying to dodge car parts duties.

Most 3 inch sewer pipe is 3 inch ID. ABS is usually sched 40 which has a heavier wall but is still 3 inch ID. If you can find class 200 in 3 inch it will be a little more than 3 inch ID

You're out of luck.

Not sure why the OD is quite so important, but plumbing components (and all types of pipe) are measured by their ID.

Tubing is measured by it's OD, and there are 3" tubings, but you DEFINITELY won't like the price. Aluminum, stainless steel, copper, PEX are all available in 3", but they will be extremely pricey.

Tubing that big would typically be used in structural applications, or specialty plumbing, like industrial beverage applications, chemical plants, food processing, etc.

Here's a link to common pipe sizing. Nothing close to a true 3in OD other than 2.87. Which you have already found.

I am still unclear on the OD necessity. Did you allready cut a 3in hole?

The OD's important to fit up with various parts I already bought that are all meant to fit to the 3" OD size that is common for intake plumbing but apparently super-rare for everything else.

I can't just clamp over the OD of the fittings on everything if that's what you're suggesting, the filter, adapter and elbows are all meant to accept a 3" OD tube and don't have a consistent OD on their own fittings.

It sounds like you are trying to do something similar to what I did above. The Nissan rubber couplers are around 2 3/4 inch OD. I just warmed them up and forced them over the 3 inch sewer pipe.

I could, I'm trying to find plastic because it's much better for intakes, heat transfer is much worse through plastic.

OK decided what I'm doing. In the long term I'll save up for that Spectre chrome-coated ABS stuff, but as a quick fix I'll either settle for exhaust tubing or find some of that 2.9" OD PVC/ABS and fatten up the ends with layers of electrical tape (hey it's no more ghetto than heating and stretching rubber couplers )

You can use a heat gun to soften and expand PVC

Use an inner tube cut and then tied on ends to expAnd evenly

That sounds like a lot of work when all I need is to make the ends 0.1" bigger on a part I'll only use for about a year

Still, handy advice. I might heat-bend PVC for some other ducting.
