Nope, you wouldn’t want that Hull.  At least not what’s left of the front of it.   Besides mine is the last of the teak models.  There is so much teak on mine and then they put real limits on teak exports.   

   Newer ones have a few pieces of teak here and there while mine actually looks like an old woodie from the inside.   Plus all the teak accents  on the outside.  Just a much more classic look to it.  

That one is a party boat while mine is a cruiser with a galley, head, fore and aft cabins.  

You say it is the exact same boat. Why not just trade your boat plus the 4k for the newer boat? The shop would come out ahead since they wont have the labor of swapping the power plant from one  boat to the other. You win by getting what you describe as a very nice boat AND the big block.

In my experience, once you de-power a hull, it rarely gets put back together and just becomes a derelict at the back of the marina.

I’m sorry,   I answered your question right above.    The new hull, ain’t still a boat.  At least not the front of it anyway. But Yes it’s the same hull, except that one was a party boat while mine is a cruiser.  

The difference is a galley, head, and fore& aft cabins. 

Plus all the teak.  It’s a combination of a fiberglass hull with all the wood of an old Chris Craft woodie. 

Except a Chris craft had mahogany and this is all teak. Built just before they put real limits on teak making Teak insanely expensive. 

So, basically, you have a show-er of a woody, and you're asking the hive mind to talk you out of making it more of a goer?

The boat is something like this, no?

If you expect anyone here to say anything against putting a big block in, it'll only be the guys saying put in a forced induction four cylinder....

Okay, now that I know and understand the full story of the other boat then by all means consider yourself enabled. If the motor and drive are pristine you will save yourself many dollars down the road.

What kind of boat do you have? Fiberglass hull with a woody topside is truly ideal.

Dare we ask for what happened to the donor vessel?

I'm not particularly nautical, but isn't that precisely the reason for having a depth finder?

Seems like a depth finder would be a wise investment (and cheap insurance) toward keeping your new drive in better condition for longer.

It sounds like you get a great deal of pleasure from your boat. On that basis, it is worth investing money in it, so long as you have the money. 

We are enablers but know when to say NO to boats. In this case yes,do it.

 I suspect a trailering accident.  No signs of water damage. Just missing a significant chunk of the forward hull.

Look at it this way, you will still have the Jag in a year but this boat might not be around then.
