To begin, I literally have 0 job hunting skills. I've had an "in" ranging from "do me a favor, hire him" to "they're hiring, apply" for every job I've had. Barring my elder retired Aunt, I have no "network" down there
For all my talk of it in the past, I finally have my clear shot to move into my late Grandfather's place in Brooksville, FL. The greater extent of my work experience is 13 of retail at Wegmans. I know I can walk into Publix with my resume, but neither full time nor a similar pay rate are guaranteed. I would also rather escape retail if possible. I'm also accustomed to half to one hour commutes, so Tampa proper is an option, and dare I say Orlando for the right job. Provided map app drive times are to be believed.

Without development experience, a college degree, or similar, you'd probably be looking at call center jobs, but the company I work for is pretty much always hiring and the benefits are decent. Call Center is in St. Pete, but we also have a ton of jobs in Orlando. Currently it looks like 93 jobs in Orlando/St. Pete, and another 254 Remote from Any State. Additionally, a hybrid work week (WFH for 2-3 days a week) is probably possible for most non-production jobs, if not all. St. Pete also has a production facility now that I think of it, so there would be options there, but I'd personally be scared of facing a commute over that bridge every day.

Brooksville to Tampa? Yeah, that's going to be your one hour commute. Worked with a guy in the Brandon area and he lived in Brooksville, hour and a half for him till he started driving 90MPH, even then he only cut down 15 minutes or so. Not a clue for Orlando since you can take 50 straight across, but it is mostly a single lane road going either way. Here in rural Florida that means a strict adherence to the speed limit due to F.O.P.s and their inability to grasp accelerating at all. And doing the speed limit is if you are lucky.
Might have better luck going north to Crystal River or Ocala.
Never knew anyone who works there but I hear good things about Costco. There is one 32 miles south..
Karl La Follette lives in the area. I'd message him to see if he knows of anything.
I checked into Indeed.com and saw what looks like 100s of jobs in Brooksville.
I would think 13 years previously with one employer would count a lot on a resume.
I say can the commute and work in Brooksville.
