Yep- that's the comparison that NPR (that conservative bastion) just made.
They were discussing the administration's attacks on, and blockades of Fox News. They said it was unseemly, and un-presidential, and then suggested that such treatment of political and journalistic adversaries was reminiscent of the Nixon administration.
They also pointed out that it would have been intolerable if Mr. Bush had tried a similar thing with ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, CNN, or even NPR.
NPR's words. Not mine.
Weird.
(ducking)
Will he be sending 'plumbers' to the RNC headquarters now? I hope they break into Glenn Beck's psychiatrist's office.

It’s like NPR isn’t as biased as some would have you believe.

I’m deeply appreciative of what NPR has done.
The White House is attempting to impose censorship; there’s simply no other term for it. If a conservative were to point this out, many would immediately dismiss the accusation on the grounds of partisan bias. As a result, many on the right are resigned to holding their tongs & hoping with every bit of will they can muster that decency & objectivity will prevail on the part of those the left will listen to.
You know, earlier this week, I heard a comedian on the radio use FOX News as a synonym for something that was complete fantasy.
At first I was offended by the comedian’s assumption that it was safe to insult FOX News as it’s “just such common knowledge that they’re a complete joke”.
But then I was reminded of an incident where I overheard an old man telling Pollock jokes about a decade after everyone else had realized they were neither appropriate nor particularly funny and the connection crystallized; folks that have no respect for conservatives and freely rattle off salvo after salvo of disparaging comments with a sense of impunity are quickly looking as dated, and out of touch, and frankly, pathetic, as that old man.
Anyway, thank you NPR, you done good

It is safe to assume its ok to insult fox news in many markets. There are two shows on TV that are very popular that make their living off of making fun of fox news.
Heres a clip!

I can believe it.. most administrations favour one news organisation or another.
Bush tended to favour journalists.. and if you got on his bad side, no more visits to the press room in the white house for you
Respect
Senator Barack Obama, Governor Bill Richardson, Senator Hillary Clinton and Ruth Harkin stand during the national anthem.
Barack Hussein Obama's photo (that's his real name)......the article said he REFUSED TO NOT ONLY PUT HIS HAND ON HIS HEART DURING THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE, BUT REFUSED TO SAY THE PLEDGE.....how in the hell can a man like this expect to be our next Commander-in-Chief????

Is this what you're talking about?

Fox news is basically a complete joke (they have cited Newsbusters.org as a source before, a hardcore right-wing blog). Whatever good reporting is going on is buried at the bottom of a sea of heavy bias and childish antics. Ignoring and shutting them out is one way to deal with it...if the administration continues to take Fox News seriously, it will only legitimize their stupid behaviour. When Obama took the birthers seriously it only made things worse, I can see why they would want to ignore Fox News now based on previous experience.
edit: one problem I can see here is that they have not given the same treatment to CBS/MSNBC. They're not obnoxious but they're just as biased.

If you, in any way, cheered-on the adversarial role taken by the press during the Bush administration, your rant is just a bit hypocritical.
Traditionally, the press (in the United States) has been expected to be a foil of government, not an advocate.
Just (maybe) the current administration wants to marginalize and minimize it's main detractor because it reveals and questions things voters need/want to know about its' government and who runs it.

Yes, their bias is obvious, but inordinately favorable towards the administration You can't figure out why the won't receive the same treatment?
If Fox news wasn't THE most heavily biased, and by a decent margin the most outrageously obnoxious news outlet of it's size, I could agree. If there were an equivalent news station with a liberal bias (let's say, hypothetically, John Stewart's comedy routine over the last 8 years was a news channel that ran all day) I couldn't blame a conservative administration for shutting them out the same way. Fox news has made their bed and now they can sleep in it. If they want to be respected like a real news source they should act like one.

Did you read my whole post? They are nowhere near as obnoxious as Fox news even though they are just as biased. They do a decent job of pretending to be a proper news source, instead of ragging on one party all day like a bunch of high school kids. You won't see those channels doing crap like this:

Um..it is. Fox News repeatedly deals in fantasy. Like the one where if school kids heard Obama address them they would become lefty pinko communists.
Even when Reagan and Bush I did the same thing.
~ TOPIC ~
NPR is doing the right thing. Bush II was wrong to eject journalists who were critical of his administration. The fourth estate, aka journalism, plays a large part in keeping our government honest. An open government is a good government as we can then see what is being done in our name. The Bush II administration is widely known as the one of the most secretive administrations. They're legacy is not considered positive.
The Obama administration needs to give Fox News enough rope to hang itself. If people want to be told what they believe to be true then let them hear it. If they want information that tells both sides of the story they'll seek other news outlets. If they're smart they will be skeptical of ALL news outlets and information they take in.

Yes, I read your whole post, but you still fail to understand that the administration will never sanction media outlets that blatantly support its' agenda and goals.
The link you provided focuses on the "opinion" shows on Fox News, not the news division. You're expressing a righteous indignation towards people offering their opinions, opinions that differ from yours.
Rather than silence an opponent, the braver alternative is to provide a rational argument to support a different point of view - if one can.
It is a bit ironic that a Republican is attacking a Democratic President by comparing him to a Republican President.
Now Limbaugh just told a New York Times reporter to go kill himself. Lots of fodder for comedians here.
The strange part of this is that ratings for both Fox News and SNL will go through the roof.
As Hunter S. Thompson once said, When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

I'm talking about their style of reporting, not what they're saying. That's the difference between CBS and Fox. Both are biased, only one uses a style of reporting like some sort of one-sided rap battle.

The "news" and "opinion" parts on Fox News are one and the same. They report the news - in a biased manner of course, with misleading summaries and such - and then go straight into "opinion" mode. I know they have totally separate "opinion" segments but the Fox anchors always have a little chat session after each news piece. If Fox is really bringing up legitimate questions that no other news channels are, well then something really has been lost, but as I've said they're just too ridiculous to be taken seriously. If they would keep the news and opinions separate it would be a good first step.

Both really, their style is incredibly unprofessional and a clear statement of bias, why cater to their shenanigans? If they want to make a point or ask a question, why not do it like adults? Maybe they'd get a better response.
