Definitely in the air!  We lost Stella Fathers' Day weekend after 5 years, Trish is a mess so we got Winter; a Chiweenie.  Mom is a Chihuahua, Dad is a Mini Dachshund that looks like a Bassett.

She still gets sad over Stella, then drags other stuff into her head, next thing I know she's running around the house crying and dusting something saying "I'm fine".  Winter is helping a lot.

Just be ready for them to piss and E36 M3 absolutely everywhere all the time for 6months- a year. It gets old. Worth it in the end but it's a factor that should not be dismissed.

amazing what 7 months brings for growth and development. Dogs are great. This is my partner in crime Posey (after Sam).

We also added a new member to the pack, meet Boomer.

I left the house on a Saturday morning to help with a friend's new race car (playtech class 1 buggy), and swmbo was bored and watching the local weekend news and they highlighted this guy at the local shelter.... Needless to say I came home to a new land shark!

He was 8 weeks when we brought him home and is currently 15 weeks old. We were told "shepherd/retriever mix" and still aren't really sure what he is. But we do know he is really smart, very treat motivated, quick to learn and loves biting us at every chance he gets.

Our older family member Auzzie (9-1/2yr old pit mix) is pretty indifferent to the whole thing and I'm pretty sure that if he could talk would wake up every morning and start the day with "That thing is still berkeleying here!"

I have dogs from 7 lbs to 70 lbs so I wont get into that debate.  But small dogs are best.

However I notice you mentioned hypo-allergenic as a feature of said choice.  If allergies are a concern be aware that hypo-allergenic is a marketing word like organic.  It has no real meaning behind it other than its likely a non shedding dog.  A dog does not need to shed in order for someone to be allergic to it.  If allergies are a concern test before getting a dog and plan accordingly.   My wife is terribly allergic to dogs and cats (we have 4 dogs 2 cats) but gets shots weekly because she'd rather do that than live without them.

In reply to JThw8 :

Good advice, but I have a minor point.

While I agree that there are many descriptive words that have no mandated meaning (natural comes to mind), labeling of an organic product is regulated.

Thanks Jim, we did test this and the dog we tested was fine; happily this one is as well. She picked up the outside cat to move her away from the pup and came in itchy and sneezy. Happy days.

Quickly closing in on one year with our pup. We found her in the shelter, and it's been a perfect experience even though we didn't know a thing about her.

And this afternoon someone got to go to the vet for her annual. Upon leaving the vet's office, I opened the front door of the car so I could throw the paperwork and stuff inside. And this happened.

She had zero interest in getting out and into the back seat.

Parents and my brother/fiance have dogs. It's nice to see them/walk/play with them but I'm a cat person through and through. A Cat who he thinks he is a dog is the best of both worlds.

Meet Luna. After a 1400 mile round trip she is now home and blending with our pack. She's adorable and sweet. According to adoption records she'll be 1 on August 14.

Assuming the normal pose for a sighthound in our home.

And the most common pose for sighthounds in this house.

We just picked up our Australian doodle last week. 2nd one for us, he's a bit rambunctious, but that's true for most puppies.

I've got a border collie/corgie mix that has zero herding instinct. I've had him since he was about a year old and has never tried to herd me, children, other dogs, etc. He was a rescue so who knows if there's something else in there that muted his instincts. Or maybe 2(herding) = 0. Who knows?

Puppy Fever is definitely a big thing this year, and I'm knee deep in it! This is Olive, our Olde English Bulldogge (yes, that's the spelling, and yes, it's weird). We brought her home in April.

She's been assimilating into our pack with Holly, our 9yo Pit/Shepherd Mix. Holly is less skeptical these days and has been great with her. They are crazy when they get going.

MAXIMUM BORKDRIVE!!!!

She loves being a potato.

She also holds strong opinions on my choice of car parts.

She recently hit 6 months and has been growing like a weed! We invited her parents over to celebrate the milestone. Her dad Oliver is on the left, with mom Charlotte on the right. We know the adults really well, and they are awesome dogs.

Our little chungus is over 50lbs now. And she's nowhere near full grown; she's on pace to be around 80lbs or more. She's a stubborn, strong, but smart pup, and she's fitting in over here really well!

This little maniac has been home with us about 2 weeks now. He's wicked smart, but he's also following the puppy playbook: chew everything in sight for 45 minutes, sleep for 2 hours, rinse, repeat
