It's been a wild ride these past couple years being part of the team starting up Endeavor Brewing Company. We're finally putting our first three beers in cans, and having a release party this Thursday! This has been a huge undertaking and it was amazing when we actually got the cans. We're stupidly happy with how gorgeous they are. Put a lot of work into creating artwork that tells a story on each one.

Anyone in Columbus who wants to come out, it's going to be a party! We're releasing our Lating Lager, IPA, and Hefeweizen. All with brand new names that we'll be announcing. Lots of other beers on tap, from a 3.5% English Mild (on nitro) up to an 11% Imperial IPA. We also got slap bracelet koozies.

I am so excited!

Those are interesting lids.

I recall back in the 90's when I had the brewery and the idea of canning came into being. Those cans are berkeleying expensive!!

Pack Techs. They're the latest thing in place of plastic rings for carrying a 6-pack. Animals can't get their necks stuck in them and they are much easier to recycle. They're reusable about a dozen times too, but that rarely happens.

Congrats on your first time putting it in the can!

Or, congrats on getting it in the can...if that's your thing.

I'm hippie enough to cut the traditional 6 pack plastic rings up before throwing them in the trash, so I appreciate the plan/rationale.  However, those things are really tough to remove, even sober.  One of our local breweries (Lost Forty) is using them on their cans.  I actually stuck my thumb through a can attempting to remove it from its eco-friendly shackle.  Made a hell of a mess and wasted beer.  On the plus side, I didn't know my grip was that strong.

Yeah, yeah I know, put the bunny down Lee.

I’m truly happy for you and wish you continued success, but I have to agree that those Pack Tech things are miserable. I can’t see it as being around very long before they come up with something better. They have to.

Yea, those things need a break away pull tab on them to release the tension on the can top. They wouldn't be reusable then but it would still accomplish the mission and no one is really reusing them anyway.

Congrats either way Beer Baron.

No. Sorry. Distribution is going to be Columbus only for a while. Not even going to be full distribution to every supermarket here for a little while.

Hey!  I do that too!  Good on you, man!

Yeah, I've seen those newfangled carriers in the store.  I wouldn't know how to drink one of those things.  Given enough time, I'd probably figure it out, though.

Apropo of nothing but brewing chat, is it legal to sell non-yeast infused Wort in Ohio?

The reason I ask is that back when I played this game, hopped wort was "Legally" all I sold. The customer would  buy it  so that legally it was his homebrew wort, then pitch the yeast and go home. I took it from there . Customer would come back two or three weeks after I had fermented, cold chilled micro-filtered and carbonated the batch,  and either pick up a keg, ( that was the batch size we brewed for an individual) or dispense into their bottles. Worked out to about 50% of the cost of buying beer from the store.

One of the Microbreweries kinda pissed me off in that they decided to also sell wort. Since they had economy of scale working for them they would do a group buy, brew up a batch and have it pre-sold to the homebrew community. Kept their kettles busy and put some cashflow in the pocket while raising awareness of the brewery. They did not compete with the services side of the business so it was easy $$$.

There is a method to get the can out of that carrier. And the can itself is just a can.

I wish I could remember how to get the can out of said carrier to describe it, but I just do it without thinking now.

I find the technique of turn it at an angle, then pull strait down and it pops right out. Easier than a plastic tab. I think the future will be biodegradable/edible rings, but we're not there yet for those to be cost effective.

Now I'm waiting for pretzel or chicharrones beer holders.

I didn't quite follow your can removal technique; I think I didn't follow the pronouns correctly... Like hold the holder/pack at an angle and try to pull a can straight down? So you're effectively tilting the can while applying enough downward pull that you're not just bending the holder while you do that?

In any case, congrats on the beer/canning/distribution!
