I'm looking at a '94 Suburban this afternoon/evening and was wondering if anybody has ever heard of an "ambulance brake package" for these? A quick Google doesn't show up anything...
Other than the above (which according to the owner seem to be mostly uprated disks & pads), it's pretty much what I'm looking for - 454 with a confirmed Z82 HD tow package, 2nd owner from new, 140k on the clock, 4x4 with leather and the dual front/rear heating and a/c. Only known issue so far is that the current owner managed to damage an a/c pipe while replacing the battery.
Uh, 8 miles per 4$ Gal downhill with the wind behind it? Otherwise, sounds like it would tow about anything you need anywhere you need.
Yeah, I'm aware of it attempting to outdrink the CJ, but the idea is that I'm unlikely to do mega miles in it, basically just use it for Ikea duty, towing and the occasional "need 4x4 because we have a 5"-10"/hour snow storm coming through".

Never heard of "ambulance brake package" but it's probably similar to the HD brake systems they put in the police package Tahoes.
I've owned 3 Suburbans and a Tahoe and currently have a 454 1 ton quad cab dually. Big GM trucks are simple and fairly reliable, gas mileage be damned!

You know a small trailer can be cheaper... right?

I'm not sure what you mean?
I'm after something that can tow a car trailer with a car on it through the mountains here.
The ambulance brake package only works if you have a body in the back.
I have owned three different 'Burbs and have never heard of that package but anything that will make it stop has to be better than the stock anti-locks.
Just came back from looking at it. It drives OK and stops OK (much better than the '95 truck I had), but the ABS light is on so we're trying to see if the owner can get that looked at before I make a decision.
Dunno what the fix is, but that seems to be a pretty common thing with Burbs and Tahoes.
Maybe this will help:

If it fits your needs I say go for it. The wife and I LOVE our 'Burban!
The ABS light comes on occasionally and from what we have been able to glean from the webz it's a corroded ground from the ABS module to the back of the block.
The mileage has taken some getting used to; our best so far has been 19mpg on a trip to St. Louis which is good for a full size SUV but compared to our N/A GC Subaru(s) it loves the dino juice. But overall, we really dig it!
Do eeeet!
Well, we like it but my inability of finding something sporty DDable & trackable within my budget has basically led to a slightly different conclusion, namely that we'll use the money I allocated to both vehicles and throw it at the trackable one and then we go search for a turbodiesel 'burb over the summer. They come up occasionally out here, it's just a matter of patience.

please explain to the masses how a small trailer helps get thru massive amounts of snow?
