My dad decided to buy a new to him e91 BMW (wagon) this week. Bonus points for a manual transmission to boot. Especially impressive since he just turned 76!

As a result, I'm going to DD his well preserved but very high mileage (160k+) '99 Maxima for the time being. It is in shocking good shape, especially the interior. He's owned it since 2000 and has taken great care of it.

One thing that needs immediate attention is the suspension. Best he can recollect, it is the original set up. To me, it feels like it desperately needs a refresh. That said, we don't want to spend a ton on a 160k Maxima, even if it is in good shape. Knowing that, what is the best option? It's nothing more than a commuter. Thoughts appreciated!

KYB - almost always makes suspension for Japanese cars. Decent and cheap.

This.

If you want a little better, go with Tokico blues.

And if it's just a beater, any no name struts are gonna be better than worn out 160K shocks.

Probably a dumb question, but what is the suspension set up on a 1999 Maxima?
