Hopefully a quick one...when you autox or rallyx your dd, do your insurance rates explode? I have been told that the companies see these activities as "competition driving" and that this could even lead to the cancellation of my policy...gentlemen and ladies, clarification please.

Rallyx might be a little harder, but for autocross its easy to just not tell anyone...
Insurance company has no idea what I do or don't do with my cars. I would never consider turning in a claim if I balled up my car on a course.
My motto is "never race a car you can't afford to walk away from". Though that may be more fitting for the "favorite race saying" thread than this one.
Your car is not insured during any timed event. Read your policy.
Some companies have been known to browse event results and/or photograph cars at (mostly drag races) that run license plates and check them against their database. They find you 'racing' your car, they may cancel you. The one I work for has told us they've done this in the past. This is why you will frequently see painter's tape over the tags on cars at events.
You definitely do not want to 'confess' to your insurer up front that you do any of the stuff you mention. Insurers are stupid when it comes to motorsports. They'll sponsor it all day long, but also make the assumption that anything involving a track and a stop watch means you are going to crash in a fiery explosion, or it will encourage you to drive recklessly on the street. Don't get me started...
I've been with my SF agent for over 20 years, and have a good relationship with him. He knows what I do, and made sure that I know that I'm not covered if anything should happen when I do it.

Only if they know about it

been with my SF agent almost as long.... he knows what I do with the car and when I started doing track days, he said if I ever wadded it up at the track I could probably make a claim and have it paid... but I would then be instantly dropped... that was with my DD... now the CRX has only liability coverage so no problem... he's even come out and watched a couple of times and tried to get his son interested .... he could see the benefits for a young driver...
