I see the Mid-America Motorplex that's on the southwestern edge of the state, but I was told there was another road course closer to Cedar Rapids. Is that right? Cause I can't for the life of me find it. Help me out?

Mid America is fairly close to Cedar Rapids, relatively speaking. You sure they weren't confused?
I like the little motel next to Mid America. Dr.L sez itsa dump. And I'm not convinced the Harley shop right up the feeder is ever open, as I've stopped there 3-4 times and they have always been closed.
There appears to be a pretty basic road course in the interior of Iowa Speedway, the new oval short track.
There's a go-kart track in Marshaltown that sometimes hosts the DMVR SCCA club. The Iowa Speedway, in Newton, has a road course in the infield.
There used to be the Des Moines Grand Prix 'track' used for the Trans Am series, but it was a street course. The Greenwood Raceway was by Indianola, but it's been closed for like 45 years.
When I was up in CR there weren't even any auto-xs within an hour, except for Hawkeye Downs' tiny, bumpy lot, and it wasn't very safe.
Here's the link to the Kart track in Marshaltown.
3 1/2 hours from Cedar Rapids to Blackhawk Farms. link

Whaddya need a combine for? Just put the cones on top of long poles and go for it.
Hey another Cedar Rapids/Waterloo resident. I jsut moved out this spring. The closet tracks are mid america, black hawk farms, and autobahn country club. They're all 4-4.5 hours away. If you don't mind 6.5 hours drive, you can add Putnam Park, Gingerman, Brainerd, Heartland Park, and (my favorite) Grattan.
If you want to go straihgt, there's the drag strip on the north side of town (waverly road) and there's quite a few circle tracks, both dirt and paved.
I didn't mention tracks outside of Iowa, but Road America is close, as are USAIR and Norway Motorplex, both are kart tracks, but I have been to car events at both and assume they still host them.
