TL:DR Tom Morrello wants special treatment, dosen't get it and raises a hissy fit.

best comment I saw was.. "F-You he didn't do what you told him"
For those who have never heard of him, like me: Thomas Baptiste Morello is an American guitarist best known for his tenure with the band Rage Against the Machine and then with Audioslave. Morello is currently a touring musician with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.
Lol, I heard about this the other day and laughed a hearty laugh. I love that the restraunt manager told him to pound sand and isn't taking any of his crap.
Hahaha

is it bad that I've never heard of him or the first 2 bands … at least I've heard of Bruce Springsteen
Saw Rage on their 1st tour in the early 90's. It was awesome. Never been much of a fan of anything after that, but I listen to it today and think they were really ahead of their time.
Seems like all parties involved suck.
I dunno...
Yes, Bruce Springsteen sucks but I haven't heard enough Rage to pass judgement on them.

These weren't exactly minor bands--and I say this as a 42 year-old. He's a pretty big deal in the music world, having inducted The Clash into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and such...
I could talk about his worldview and why I think he's one of the most annoying musicians of the last 25 years, but I won't..
I'll just post this here with the disclaimer that it's not a totally accurate reflection of the music he is famous for...
Mildly annoyed with the machine
But it would cool if it was...

Yeah, which is a real shame, because the music on the first couple Rage albums was so fantastic, but the politics and the vocals render them almost unlistenable. I have a standing offer of $50 for a CD-quality copy of the first RATM album with no vocals. I'd probably even go $100 at this point.

Agreed. I'm not sure why being a talented musician, or any type of performer really, means that I should have to listen to your view on politics. I don't care what you think about politics. You're an entertainer. If you want to be a politician, fine, go be one. But don't think that just because you're famous that I enjoy the smell of your farts as much as you do.

I knew Morello was a douche, so I'm not shocked.

Obviously you're a part of the machine.

Love it, the comments are great too
Meh, so what, another famous person acts like a famous person. Who cares? I am completely fine disassociating a persons personal antics from the media they produce. I love...BERKING LOVE Rage Against the Machine. They got big when I was in Junior High, and had a significant impact in my musical leanings.
Pantywaisted, Im-too-cool-for-u hipsters - news flash: youre not as cool as you think you are! GASP
I only know of RAtM as I took my then 13 year old daughter (now 19) and her friend to their concert in Detroit on a school night a few years ago. I actualy enjoyed it and now have a few tracks on my mp3. I was also the coolest dad in school for a while after that

he's obviously not an acoustic player, and odds are there aren't fiddles and banjos in his bands … could have a lot to do with my having never heard of him

My main Rage Against the Machine memory is the four of them standing buck-naked on the stage in Philly at the first Lolapalooza tour with "P. M. R. C." accross their chests and their guitars leaning against their amps feedbacking...
...for 20 berking minutes...
At first my friends and I were like, "This is so berking cool!"
Then after awhile, "Ok... this is getting annoying..."
And finally, "Wait... these motherberkers aren't going to play, are they???"
...and they didn't. Which pissed us off since they were the main reason we went to the blasted show. So their first CD was the only one I've ever bought. I'm all for making a political statement - but don't do it at the expense of your fans who paid their hard-earned money to see you.
I bought Audioslave CD's, but mainly because I'm a big Chris Cornell fan and will buy pretty much anything he does. I'm essentially indifferent to the rest of the band. I've seen videos of Cornell playing Audioslave songs on solo acoustic and it's incredible.
Stuff like this is also why I have little desire to meet any of my "heroes" past or current. I'm perfectly happy to live in blissful ignorance of not knowing what they're really like.
I know who Morello is solely by virtue of his appearance on Guitar Hero III, Legends of Rock.
I always thought that Tom Morello was a pretentious dong. I guess I am right.
I liked the first two Rage albums. The 2nd one (Evil Empire really dragged me in with it's awesome groove and rhythm parts. Then, I started reading interviews of Tom and Brad Wilk in musician magazines. Tom Morello prided himself in not using synthesizers and sequencers to make all those crazy sounds, saying that was cheating and unnatural.
Umm... no. If he was so hell bent on sounding natural, he should have played acoustic and never recorded it.
Instead, he modified the hell out of his guitars to make all the sounds with switches and knobs. Last I checked, most Analog synths work in the same way.
What a dink.
And Wilk talked about how they did not use ANY tom-toms on the original album because that would ruin the sound, and how he had to use an old no-name drum kit and dirty old cymbals on Evil Empire because those sounded better than the pro stuff. Ok... I remember a friend of mine got an old 4-piece tiger stripe sparkle drum kit from the local dump (it was kinda cool looking actually) and tried to emulate Wilk. It sounded AWFUL no matter how we tuned it or what heads we used.

Agreed. His much beloved Whammy pedal is essentially an analog synth.
