Our house sounded like it exploded today when lightning either hit it or close to it. Can't find any visible damage but everything plugged into 1 outlet that goes through the chimney got fried.
The modem actually has loose pieces in it when it's moved, the wireless Joey is dead & the 7 year old Samsung plasma is also dead. Modem & Joey will be here Saturday.
Took the tv apart & the only fuse I see is good. What budget friendly tv's in the 55"+ size are good deals for the $ & from where? Did some limited searching online but without WiFi it's slow going.

Vizio and LG both have great sets in that size for ~$400 or so at Sams club. I did vizio for a while until it feel of the wall and now have two LGs with no complaints

Whatever you do, check out which TVs are the worst for ads and all that stupid crap. I'm going to hate buying a new one because mine doesn't even connect to the internet.
Commercial Samsung. Rated for looong use and minimal "smart".

So the new smart one's spy on you & have ads? Great
This is the one I'd get: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/samsung-55-class-be55t-h-led-4k-commercial-grade-tv/6407620.p?skuId=6407620
Basically just a display. Let something else take care of input switching and content.
I bought a TCL 65" with ROKU and do like it. I have a 51" 720p plasma that I haven't mounted in my garage yet if you want it. Dumb TV (in the good way).

Any smart TV is in danger of it.
EDIT: Damnit. Change "shiny happy person" back into non-GRM speak.

The password is commonly something simple to guess, 00000000 or 12345678 or 87654321 or whatnot.

Vizio is the worst for data mining. However, no one says you have to hook up your smart TV to the interwebs. If you don't it's just another dumb TV.
My LG OLED has never had a internet connection and it's just fine.

Oh, Samsung. Yea, don't buy a Samsung because they like to remove features after purchase, this built in ads thing should just be another reason to avoid them. Even if you have a pi hole running, much better and cheaper, alternatives exist.
Find 4k TV, buy.
The only real difference these days are cheap and super expensive, and the "smart software" installed.
IIRC, there are only two panel manufacturers in the world.

I got a 70" TCL. Stopped by Walmart on the way to Best Buy just for fun to start checking them out. Both of our son's have TCL's & are solid TV's. There were prices posted for 75,65,55 & 50. There were 2- 70's in boxes there so I asked how much they were. They were cheaper than the 65's due to being "online only" but they were shipped 2 of them so they discounted them to get them gone. Ok whatever, load it up.
It fits the overly large fireplace chimney better anyway.

Just about any appliance you can buy for the house has a commercial grade version.
I would have recommended the 55" we have but I see you already bought one and I don't even know what TV we have.
And I bought it.
In reply to mdshaw :
Came here to say TCL and well, there you go. We’ve had a 55 for 3 years now and no issues.
