I've seen the internet claims that Red Yeast Rice will help you lower your cholesterol but I'm wondering if anyone on here has tried and and had any positive results.

It's cheap and apparently does no harm.

I don't have bad cholesterol levels, although they are on the high side of nomal, but I am just trying to do whatever I can, sans cutting out pizza, to help my health.

My numbers aren't bad, but my bad cholesterol is higher than I'd like and the red yeast rice is supposed to help there.

Anyone?

I take them but I cannot tell if the big difference in my cholesterol is from that, diet/exercise or my other supplements but it cannot hurt to do all 3. Omega 3 supplements like Fish Oil and Krill Oil (no fish burps) all have positive reviews. I also like flax seed oil.

I don't quite get krill oil. 50/24mg EPA/DHA per pill. My fish oil tablets? 220/550mg a pill. Something just doesn't add up.

I don't do krill either. The numbers and the price don't add up for me either.

When I did a little internet research on red yeast rice a few years ago, I found a couple of sites saying that the FDA now regulates the one ingredient in RYR that affects cholesterol...meaning you can't buy RYR in the US if it contains the one thing that does some good! You might look into that and also "plant sterols" which supposedly have some good effects and are available fairly cheap online from the big vitamin supply houses.

Regular doses of fiber are supposed to help with cholesterol. Good for your insides as well.

Oatmeal fiber specifically.

Might be good for your insides, but it plays heck with the part where your insides meet your outsides. A lot of fiber means a lot of poop. Ya gotta be careful you don't get too much at any one given time.

Why is it that taking Benefiber or one of those has such a much more dramatic effect than does just eatin' a lot of beans or salad?

I take fish oil, flax seed oil and red rice yeast daiky for about 6 months now, all natural and safer than a drug, no readings just yet though

Wine is just spoiled grape juice and tastes like it. Pomegranate juice tastes much better and is supposed to be just as good
