I love all critters.  I certainly see no reason to harm a cute skunk... but also see no reason for him to be living under my wood shed.

Add to that, if my indoor dog (or I) gets sprayed, my life will be seriously berkeleyed.  Google says to use dog urine since they are a natural predator of skunks.  Well, my dog pees all around the wood shed and that hasn't worked.  Google also say to use citrus peels because skunks don't like strong scents (ironic, right?).  I did that last week and the next night when I walked outside, the skunk was sitting on my patio looking at me... while chewing on one of the orange peels.  His face almost looked like "thanks, man, I needed the vitamin C."

The dude is seriously chill, and I like having wildlife in my suburban back yard, but I don't want any misunderstandings that cause him to escalate any glandular discharges if you know what I mean.

Have any of you successfully repelled one?  What did you use?

I would try mothballs. No clue if it would work. Maybe mix up a batch of my rodent removal mix. It is two cans of CRC brake cleaner and two packages of mothballs crushed up in to a powder. Mix and let stand for a coupe hours are n a sealed container.  Then filter the liquid in to a solvent proof spray bottle.  Effectively you now have liquid mothballs as the CRC brake cleaner extracts the active ingredients out of the mothballs. The CRC seems to enhance the power of the mothball.

I trust that you have the knowledge of how to deal with, mix and store chemicals in a safe manner.  This is not something someone with out a basic understanding of chemistry and handling of chemicals should mess with.

Anyway once you spray the area follow it up with a hand full or three of semi crushed mothballs.

the mix will stink but it has dispatched all kinds of cridders. From around my place. I have not used it on skunks specifically. The spray will leave a white residue when the CRC evaporates.

I read that you can feed them something chocolate. It is not likely to cause any real harm, but it will probably make them sick, in which case they will move on.

Coyote urine. $16 a pint at Agway last time I bought some, but one bottle is a lifetime supply.

Put a drop on a "scent dart", which is a cotton ball glued to a golf tee, and stick a few in the ground near the places that you don't want skunks to be.

Skunks will move out immediately.

You will see coyotes a few days later if you don't remove them.

You will not see any of your friends in the area either if you forget to remove them. Possibly the worst smell ever.

I live trapped a skunk by accident once. I dont have any issue with them so I had to open the cage to let it out. Lots of swearing and towels and welding gloves and sweating, but the thing never did spray me and nobody got hurt. It just walked away as I ran away.

Following. I've got them under my porch. In the past I have used mothballs, and I believed that it worked. But they're back.

Does anyone happen to know what effect predator urine has on chickens?

Wolf or coyote would be great to keep the raccoons, possums, and ground hogs away, but not if it scares the birds too.

Put a skunk snack in the bucket and let fly.

Oh! Sorry.  That would be propel, not repel...

I can't believe I'm considering purchasing coyote pee.

Maybe I should just get a pet coyote.

Maybe if you eat what coyotes eat, your pee would smell like coyote pee?  Any way you could discreetly pee around your shed?  laugh

I have a coydog...

Also, I was hoping this thread was going to be about skunks descending a mountain or cliffs with ropes and harnesses.
