They're out there, I've seen multiple news stories and tributes. Or, you can just go to YouTube and type in his name. Sly Stone may not have been at the same level as Brian Wilson in the history of music but he was very important in his own way.
If you want to get a feel for how complex some of the Beach Boys productions were, look up a group of musicians called "The Fendertones". They have a bunch of videos of them replicating Beach Boys tunes, and they show all the various sounds that are overlaid in the tracks.
