Sax player with Bob Seger, best known for Turn the Page, died from colon cancer at age 72. Turn the Page is what got me linked up with my current group. The bass player stopped alongside me when I was walking the dog one day and said "I hear you're a sax player - can you play Turn the Page and Baker Street?" I said yes, got invited to go to their next rehearsal, and I've been with them now for five years. Every single time we do Turn the Page, everyone at the gig stops talking and listens in silence, the song is still that effective. Anyhow, godspeed Alto Reed (what a name for a sax player).
dude. I went to ytube to listen to this....iffen yur that good, yu da man bro happy new year peace out
Actually neither one of these solos is particularly difficult, they are just good, and are widely recognized. Reed was really good at saying a lot, with a lot of feeling, without playing a zillion notes.
With a name like that, what else could he have done?

Jim, I don't know how I missed this thread. But l agree, Alto was a great sax player and such a great name! I never appreciated or recognized him in the day. It was always the main artist we heard. Just like I didn't appreciate Clarence Clemons, Richard Parry, and I'm sure many others. Thank you for this thread.
BTW, I'm listening to "Unwind" music channel on Amazon Music in front of the fireplace. All excellent jazz sax. Great stuff.
