I'm not going to say he was a great person, but late late late night AM radio will never be the same. My buddy and I used to pick up "Coast to Coast AM" somehow on an old radio. Crazy but entertaining stuff.
Oh great, how will I find out what's happening on Earth now?

This one was a favorite, the man from the future: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6uXxgMhjDw
so they finally came and got him?
He was certainly entertaining, but you always worry about people taking him a bit too seriously.
Sadly, his style went from an extreme example on the radio / media to almost the standard... argh.
He must've said something that the "Men in Black" didn't like. Either that, or the Quickening is upon us!
Seriously though--- R.I.P to Mr. Bell. His show kept me entertained during many a late night road-trip. I recall once my girl and I were driving cross country on Halloween night. Art had opened up the phone lines for people to call in with genuine ghost stories. These weren't "guests" but regular folks calling in and describing their encounters with the supernatural.
It was scary as Hell! That evening flew by as we listened. I was always bummed when Art stepped down and George Norry took over. The show was never the same.
Thanks Art! Good travels into the "Kingdom of Nigh"

Art Bell will never get the props he deserves for being a damned good radio guy. You can say he constantly walked across the line (and back over again) of legitimate content but as far as I ever listened he was always professional and took his work (and his listeners) seriously and respectfully even when they didn't deserve it. We're poorer for his loss.
I haven't listened to him in years. Back when I was first starting out flying hauling Cargo in a Cessna 404 and a Cessna 310 I would tune the ADF in and listen to him quite often. I enjoyed listening ,especially on nights when I was above the clouds, there was no moon and you can see every Star in existence. He kept me awake many an evening and early morning. RIP

Right on, more people need to behave as he did
