Just came here to post this.
"Ain't No Sunshine" is actually not one of my favorite songs. I much prefer this one (not the original version, but cool):
I was a big fan long before I had any idea who he was.
My favorite: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkaexjc-1os
When I saw the thread title, I knew, I knew, I knew, I knew, I knew, I knew, I knew, I knew, I knew, I knew, I knew, I knew, I knew, I knew, I knew, I knew, I knew, I knew that he must've passed.
RIP Bill.
The man could sure as heck write a song, and did a pretty fine job of singing them as well. Raised in Beckley, WV. Navy man. Didn't quit his day job until "Ain't No Sunshine" was moving up the charts. RIP.

maybe too soon, but still got a chuckle out of me. that guy made some great music. RIP.
Been a fan of his since way back. Grab his greatest hits. Goood stuff.
and "grandms's hands" always stuck out to me too.
He did it good. I always loved his deeper tracks. Like Do It Good. Seamless blend of Jazz, Blues, and 70s smooth.
If i remember right, he was at the height of his popularity and decided "berk this, i done" and gave up the music career. He had made plenty of money obviously.
Rolling Stone has a good article about him: https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/bill-withers-obituary-977929/

Hey Angry, How do you turn a duck into a soul singer?
Can't knock the guy for wanting to walk away when he had enough. He said in a more recent interview that he wouldn't know the pop chart from a pop tart. At least he had a sense of humor. Lost a great one. RIP.

I think it was a great move. Get to be famous and rich, then decide "i dont really care for this" and just go chill the rest of your life. I could easily see that, I see nothing enjoyable about being famous. Rich would be nice, but i want nothing to do with fame. I like being able to just go to a restaurant or store like a normal person and not be mobbed or harassed.
