Back on topic, how many dogs have played the roll of Duke in the commercials? One article says “several” But that is just the way it is for acting animals. 

That said, being a person who prefers pets to other people, it is sad.

True story - when I was a kid we had a dog named Nicky. Everyone who first met the family called me Nick and the dog Duke.
