Lynyrd Skynyrd has announced the death of their last original member, Gary Rossington, just a week before they are scheduled to appear at the Florida Strawberry Festival in Plant City.
Rossington had reportedly been treated for multiple heart problems over the last several years, but was still rockin' at 71.
I know there are some Skynyrd lovers and haters on this forum. Personally, I have been a fan since I saw them open for Chicago at the old Tampa Stadium in 1974.
Hopefully any comments here can be respectful and non-political.
thanks to older siblings, i vaguely remember hearing about their plane crash and the controversy over changing the album cover. i started listening to them in 1981 thanks to a friend in HS, and I will forever yell "FREEBIRD!" during breaks between songs at shows. I can tell you that fans of Sarah McLachlan do not appreciate this.
RIP
Skynyrd haters? That's wrong......
