Lots of childhood memories as a Raiders fan went along with you.

Ditto, but an Oilers uniform for me.
For me, stabler was the Bret Favre of his day. A guy playing on the back slope of his career, but with the skills and especially the heart of a much younger man. The fact that he had a supporting cast like Earl Campbell and Dave Casper in Houston jut made their games lain fun to watch. There was a barnstorming quality about them.
RIP man.
I have his autograph somewhere. I've never been a sports fan, but we were on vacation visiting my grandparents in Gulf Shores - probably late-70's, around the peak of his career - and at that time he had a restaurant there. We went out to eat & he happened to be dining there as well...my dad basically forced me to go over and ask for his autograph. He signed one of the menus, and I'm pretty sure he sat me on his lap as he signed it.
I'll have to go look and see if I can find it.
I remember watching him as a kid. The Snake was the anti- Roger Staubach. Where Roger was polite, clean-cut and squeaky clean, the Snake was unshaven, hungover, and tough as nails. Stabler would get the living Hell beat out of him (football was a much, much rougher game back then) and just when you thought he'd never get up.....he would..... and then throw the game-winning pass. He was a badass in a way that pro athletes just can't be anymore.
Back then the Raiders where the nastiest, dirtiest, meanest gang of hoodlums in the NFL---- and Stabler was their leader, their captain. To me, he was the quintessential Raider--- dirty, tough, and totally the guy you wanted to party with once the game was over!
Although I always hated the Raiders, you had to respect Stabler. It's ridiculous that he's not in the Hall of Fame. His numbers weren't amazing, but he was a pure winner--- who lead one of the best teams in the league's history.
RIP -- Snake

Pretty much my sentiments. He was the least likely looking QB to me. Looks can be deceiving.
Being from Alabama, he's very popular here, and probably my favorite quarterback of all time. He's the reason I have been a Raiders fan for so long. RIP Snake.
