Billboard & TMZ are reporting Prince died. He was 57.

yes.. such a talented guitar player.
I have wondered if the "little Sweet" dude on the commercials is based on Prince.
I remember his interview with Dick Clark in one of his first appearances and he seems to be really weird, even then. Most talented people are a little out there.
When I heard it on the radio today I thought it was a hoax, or maybe some weird scheme on his part. Very strange as he wasn't that old, and as far as I know took care of himself. He was reported to be sick with the flu recently, but who knows what that meant.
I had one semi-personal encounter with him, back in the early 1980s - pre Purple Rain. At the time he lived somewhere in the same neighborhood as me; I was at a local ice cream shop having a sundae when this little guy on a purple Honda motorcycle rode up with a hot girl on the back, who was wearing not much more than a camisole and heels. They walked in as I was walking out.
In reply to stuart in mn:
By that description there is no one else on this whole planet but that could have possibly been other than Prince.
Please please tell me she walked in through the out door.

Sorry..I was walking out the out door, so they had to walk in the in door.
Another looser connection: the guy I had paint a couple of my motorcycles back then also painted Prince's bike.
One more: my roommate back then worked in an office building across the street from the First Avenue nightclub. He was there late one night, and before he left he stopped in the restroom; when he walked in, Prince was standing there in front of the mirror getting ready for his gig across the street, wearing purple bikini underwear and a clear plastic raincoat.
Someone usually says, "Hey, there's already another thread about this, " but this guy deserves all the threads.
My wife and I went to a showing of Purple Rain last night at Alamo Draft House (movie theater+bar+restaurant)
I'd never seen it.
Per the local news, a representative from the California rehab place arrived at Paisley Park the morning after he died, and was actually the person who called 911 when he was discovered. Too little, too late.
An interesting thing that has come out is the level of his philanthropy - he privately gave away millions to all kinds of worthy causes, notably many music school programs.
To Lesley - I mentioned in another thread how I ran into him once at a local ice cream shop, pre-Purple Rain. I think it was the summer of 1981. He was walking in as I was walking out; he arrived on his purple motorcycle along with a hot (and scantily clad) woman, and of course he was dressed just like you would expect. They made quite the entrance.
Also unfortunate is that his estate is probably going to be squandered (once the gov't gets through raping it), once they figure it out.
Well, he is, or his estate is, paying the price for not having a will.
He has a huge collection of music he never released, and likely never wanted released. He also essentially never licensed out his music. Both things will likely be done, despite what he might have wanted. Another reason (especially someone like him) to have a will.
I sense a Cadillac commercial to the driving beat of a Prince song is not long off...
Of note is that his heirs are a least reasonable enough to realize having someone else manage the distribution is a good ideal (rather then fight amongst themselves)

Yup. From what I understand his desire to remain true to himself is going to haunt his archives now. It's going to be exactly the wrong kind of people making money off of exactly the wrong kinds of things.
