So, I had this 1986 RX-7 about 4 or so years ago. When I got it it was 2 colors, burning more oil than it should, had one headlight that was stuck "up" while the other was "down", and she wouldn't idle. After a year of working here and there on one problem at a time, I made a pretty neat little auto-x'er out of her. I painted her all one color, rebuilt the motor, installed a new (full) exhaust, fitted her with Tokicos and Eibachs, and stuffed some wider tires and rims underneath her. I only ran her at a couple of Auto-x events in San Antonio, but she was a fun little car.
When I was getting close to getting married I traded her to a buddy for his Toyota 4x4. He later sold the RX-7 to his brother, who flooded the motor at a rest area in Louisiana. Apparently the "mechanic" he took her to couldn't get past the "dual alternator pulley" I installed when I removed the smog pump (runs 2 belts to the alt/water pump). That was about 2 years ago...
Today I got word that she's been crushed. I feel like a family member just died...
Wow he couldn't have sold it cheap instead? Damn...
Hate that kind of thing. Seems wasteful ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/whatthe-18.png)
That's terrible! They could have at least given you a yell to see if you wanted it back.
Yeah. I was a bit uneasy back when I heard she was being sold to his brother. He was/is a bit young/stupid, but what can you do really? It's his car to sell to who he wants to sell it to ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/unhappy-18.png)
I wasn't feeling too bad about the news until I called the wife to share. Then it kind of hit me. What a shame after I invested all that time and money though... I wish she would have gone to someone who would have cared for her a bit more
That’s too bad Hungary Bill…I had a 1987 FC that I drove for eighteen years and put 286,000 miles on go to the crusher as a cash-for-clunkers sacrificial offering.
I saw a super clean 1981 FB on the back of a flatbed yesterday and I thought about offering the owner a few grand “alive or dead” for it.
well, at least she doesn't have to put on the red light anymore.
She stopped at that "big red light" in the sky? ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/laugh-18.png)
I had a Honda accord coupe that I'd done z little work to but ended up trading it in on a 1970 impala. The guy who bought it off the lot totaled it before making a payment. While out running the cops.
Some cars deserve better than they get.
I've gotta be honest. If I had a car that went out like that I would be at the police station:
How hard was it to keep up? Did you see how flat she navigated the corners? Were there any times when she almost got away? Could you tell how well the car was providing feedback to the driver? Were there any moments you thought about giving up the chase? If the driver hadn't wrecked, do you think you could have caught him? oh, and can I have the car back? ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/wink-18.png)
