ABC is reporting that he had inoperable brain cancer. At least now a suicide makes sense, I'd heard that he was pretty enthusiastic about a couple of projects he had in the pipeline.

Tony Scott had a very distinctive style, it's unfortunate a great director has passed.
Whats even more unfortunate is that no one knows what is going to happen to the Cable show that he and his brother Ridley were working on that was supposed to be like Mad Men during the 50's and 60's era Le Mans.
