If you run into trouble near the Illinois/Indiana border, let me know! I'm about 25 minutes off of I64 and two hours from I70, depending on what route you're taking.
Don't know what route you are taking Columbus to NJ but if on I-86 through western NY I can provide emergency roadside duct tape repairs and assist short of welding. About a mile from Chautauqua Lake if you need anything in that area. We have a great brewery (Southern Tier) if you need refreshment over the weekend.

That sounds like a winner...beer or a slinger! It's not set in stone, though, it all depends on how she feels at zero hour.
She's doing much better now that the drain has been removed. That was interesting to watch!
We're over due for a face-to-face meeting with some GRMers!
In Tulsa, Weber's root beer is awesome, if you are a fan of root beer. Its easily one of the best root beer's I've had.
When you roll through Missouri, there's a Japanese restaurant in Rolla, about a 100 miles from St Louis thats pretty good, called Kyoto. Its on Rt 63 in a converted gas station. There's also a small stonehenge replica on the edge of the MST campus. I really like the beef teriyaki.
Thank you to everyone for the offers of assistance, with luck I won't need it but I'll try to update here as I travel :)

The Colony will be loaded with a motorcycle and 3 dogs, probably not very autox conducive ;) These pups are rescued puppy mill breeders which means they've never seen life outside a box and will be prone to bolting if I dont keep them kenneled for the duration.

We have Weber's out here too, great root beer, of course if I see one on the road I'll try it out to see if there's a regional difference :)
I think the plan at the moment is going to be the 3 day plan. Wife made plans of her own for Sunday so I dont feel as rushed to get back late Saturday night now. So that will mean overnighting in St Louis and Columbus.
I should be staying at the Residence Inn in St Louis, looks like its just down the road from the Arch and Im assuming on the "good side" of town. Perhaps the locals can fill me in as I was going to go poke around town a bit but I keep getting urban legend warnings of the parts of town where I may die if I just happen to turn down the wrong street. Is it that rough or are these reports from people who have never spent time in a city? Can't imagine I'll be much of a draw to any carjackers or thieves rollin in a 78 Mercury station wagon.

That is just sad in so many ways...

It is, but we can be happy in that their life is about to change. My own little girl Lilly was a mill mama. When she got here she ran away and hid under the sofa for days. Its almost a year later and she is a "real dog" now. She loves to play and run around the yard and sit on the sofa with people. And she is the best behaved dog I have out of the bunch. I highly recommend a mill rescue if you can find one. They take a little work up front but they are really worth it :) The 3 I'm bringing back will be looking for good homes, 2 males, 1 female if anyone is looking for a great little dog.
we sorta had one. When I was still a pup, my parents were Siberian Huskey Breeders (not a mill though) we maybe had a litter a year.. We bought these Four Red and White Huskeys.. mom, two sons, and a daughter. We kept all but one. (the one was too nasty and uncontrollable.. we had to put him down) the Mother had almost been bred to death.. you can probably trace a lot of red snowdoggies back to her. She was the sweetest thing in the world

I would opt to stay a bit further from the downtown area. Our current destination for an overnighter is in Earth City. St. Charles is nice and has a beautiful historic riverfront district. Ballwin and St. peters are nice too.
My basic rule of St. Louis thumb is if I'm looking at a map and want to find a nice, safe place to stay, it will most likely be found outside the "C" that is formed by highway 270.
In reply to The_Jed:
There are very safe places inside that "C," but Old St Charles can be a very good destination. Downside, all the nice shops close at 6 and the bars down the street pick up, then turn into E36 M3ty clubs as the night progresses. Downtown may have more fitting attractions. Then again, I'm kind of partial towards the city. I just work in the ghetto and tell bad stories.
There IS Trailhead Brewery in St Charles. Downtown you've got plenty more. I like the breweries.
Earth City is an industrial area full of tractor trailers and FedEx trucks. It is, although, literally right down the street from me. A very wiggley street, but a street nonetheless.
In reply to The_Jed:
LOL. Follow me down a few. Earth City is right by some beautiful, but short drives. I never caught the dates of all these shenanigans.
LOL. It's a big place, Datsun.. There are a lot of good food places. The best ones are hidden behind sex shops...
