You may recall that during the epic GPS vs. Hornet thread we discussed bees, colony collapse disorder, and how that could be a major problem for agriculture since so many things are pollinated by bees. I just saw that the harvard robotics guys are trying to make robotic bees to pollinate our crops.
[sarcastic cluelessness]
I bet robot honey sucks
[/sarcastic cluelessness]
Anyway, discuss: should we rely on robots or try to have healthy bee colonies?
Recent rapid losses of bumblebees as well.
CCD is but one headache for beekeepers, there are plenty of others.
Couldn't a farmer fly over dropping pollen?
Carguy123 has done a bees work.

Yes. Harvesting pollen is the challenge.
Some crops and plants don't lend themselves well to airborne pollenation. Downward facing flowers for example.

I believe the trick is just to use a brush of some sort.
I can't help but think dressing up as a giant bee would also help get the plants sexy time juices flowing.
Bee sure to film it also.
Maybe some Barry White will help. Either that or throw a frat party and bring beer.
Should we, no, will we have to, probably yes.

There's a Bob Costas joke in there somewhere, but I'll let someone else make it.
