Alexander Anderson Jr., the creator of the cartoon characters Rocket J. Squirrel and Bullwinkle the Moose has died at the age of 90.
As a kid, and even as an adult, I always laughed at R+B, especially the really stupid puns. I've never seen the movies, what would be the point?
the world is a less funny place now...
"nothing up my sleeve"
"Fan mail from some flounder?"
The Announcer: Well, you're just in time for what might be a very unhappy ending.

Hey Rocky, watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat... that gag never got old.
I LOVED that cartoon when I was in early elementary school. It pleased me a lot, years later, to watch it again and discover it was more than a little... weird.

That's still one of my favourite cartoons. Little known, the narrator was William Conrad, aka Cannon.
I always liked Boris Badenov
We had a bunch of VHS tapes, and gave them to our younger friends (who had never seen the show), for their kids.

RIP, sir!
I saw a great interview with him many years ago. Apparently, they were on a big tour to promote the show when it first began (or something like that) and they were going to wind up in Washington DC and try to talk their way into the White House to see JFK. Turns out they showed up in a van with a bunch of weirdos, two of whom voiced Boris and Natasha... right in the middle of the Cuban Missile Crisis.
I loved (and still do) those goofy old cartoons.

PBS hosted a documentary of the R&B show titled "Of Moose and Men"; it's highly recommended for some insight of the wacky and irreverent workings of the creators' minds.

The semi-animated movie isn't too bad, either.

Homer J. Simpson got his middle initial from Rocket J. Squirrel and Bullwinkle J. Moose.
I see he lived in Berkeley, which sort of fits in with this board.
Anyone remember the Kerwood Derby episodes?
