I just watched an episode of Netflix "Dirty Money"... anyone else? (I figure I'm probably the last car-guy to hear about him.)
Part of me wanted to think he just used the payday loan scam to his advantage (they all suck), but listening to him and the whole Indian tribe thing to get around laws made to stop this very thing. And not even be located where the tribe was located... Any idea what those race cars went for? He might be safer in prison than on the street around the many he grabbed $$ from.

Article about the case itself
There have been several threads about it here. I just watched that the other day as well. I think they actually believe they did nothing wrong and are victims in the whole situation. Which just infuriates me. If it were up to me they would never see the outside of a prison again.
The auction was several months ago. I think the million dollar STU 911 went for under 100K. The DSR cars went to Australia long before the legal trouble.
Here is a great story on the DSR program: Level 5 Podcast

His brother was a bigger scum bag. Wrote software to purposely mark up all the small debts by $300 or so (who's going to believe the person using the payday loan store over the loan store itself, especially because the person using the loan very likely doesn't keep good records)?
AND THEN his program helped sell the fake debt multiple times to multiple collectors!!!
Third brother who was in on it too has already committed suicide.
The Revo 555 Ferrari went for the most of 462K. Most of the rest went for well under value. The 555 car had the Rolex win and some heritage.
My personal feelings are mixed on the whole situation. I hate predatory lending practices and this was exceptionally greedy. If they are going to charge those types of fees, don't be sneaky about it. Just call it out and be transparent.

I’m a racer but taking advantage of the very needy and poor for your pleasure and ego is about as low as you can go.
They are also the ones paying the politicians to deregulate the rules so they can get away with it.

In reply to Nick Comstock :
Kinda figured others probably talked about it by now.
I keep coming back to the Indian tribe shell companies... Dude, you KNOW you were scamming at that point. Stop coming off so high and mighty "I just wanted to help people".
