Am I screwed?
The cloth I use to clean off the lenses must have had some metal shavings in it as there are some very noticeable scratches right in my line of vision. Oh why couldn't they be off to the side?
If I polished the scratches, what could I use? Would it drastically change my prescription? I could probably use a eye exam , but I'm bucks down at the moment, and these lenses are special thin ones as I have a strong prescription.
Ouch. Yeah, polishing scratches out can change the prescription. You might try this: clean them thoroughly with soap and water, do NOT use paper towels! Then use a little paste wax, wax it like you would a car. Don't use cleaner waxes etc, only straight wax. Again, NO paper towels! The scratches may not go away entirely but it may improve enough so that you don't have to replace them immediately.
No suggestions for the scratch, but consider getting one of these for cleaning your glasses without risking scratches.

A couple of years ago, I was opening a car door, lost in thought, and smacked myself really hard in the head. Thank god I had my sunglasses on, because I had a small gash in my eyebrow and a bit of a black eye...
Anyway, there was a noticeable scratch on one lens of my Ray Bans. This sounds weird... but I dabbed a bit of olive oil on the scratch, then polished it with the lens cloth. It's barely noticeable now.
There is some stuff you can wipe on to basically fill in the scratches. Not sure what they call it or where to get it.
Sam's Club will put a new set of lenses in those frames pretty reasonable, like in the $50 range if you push hard enough (plastic lenses, no "options," etc.)
Now, for the future, here is how to keep your glasses scratch free: NEVER WIPE THEM OFF!!! Never. Got all mucky? Live with it until you can get to a sink, then with warm water, rinse them thoroughly, wash your hands thoroughly, use plain soap on your fingers and gently clean the lenses. Dry with a CLEAN T-shirt or handkerchief.

You do know you can buy new set of glasses online for about $10.00
Zenni Optical
I bought so many sets from them, I now can find a set of glasses anywhere.
That's what pisses me off, Hess. I've been super careful about not doing what I did. 2 am is NOT the time to be in the garage. I think Sam's would give me the run around about not being able to order new lenses on a 2 year old perscription.
Good news: I found 4 pairs of contacts in the current perspiration. it's gonna freak out the people who only know me with glasses.

I didn't know that contacts perspire.
Seriously, $50 at zenni and you get a couple pair of regular and a couple pair of sunglasses. Leave the shades in the cars, use the cheap glasses when you are working. Based purely on how much less bad it feels to trash a pair of $10 glasses vs multiple hundreds of bucks you will be glad you did.
Damn those prices are cheap.
I kept my old glasses with a cracked lens, they are fine for working around the house. Saves my $300 daily use progressives.
I could use some shades, might check out Zenni for those.

So what do cleaning agent do you use in it for glasses? Not being a wise guy, honestly curious as I just got prescription glasses & shades.

Straight warm water usually. Mostly cleaning skin oils off and it just clouds off when you turn it on.
For a serious cleaning I might add a small amount of mild dish soap, but that is rarely needed.
I use dawn dish soap. You want the plain blue kind. And be carful of dish soaps with skin sofiners. They don't rinse clean. It leaves a film that attracts dirt and dust. You end up washing your glasses 2x as much
