Mine from the missus usually starts with "Get off the berkeleyin' computer" and usually includes shoes, chocolate, coffee, and maybe jewelry if we aren't feeling poor (we've been feeling poor for about a year since she started her masters in teaching program)
A bottle of wine and a porno dvd.
Jewelry from Tiffany's. The box is worth half of it.
Tickets to (what does she like?) James Taylor, Wicked, etc.
Gift card to the towns fanciest restaurant.
I just gave my girlfriend a guitar. She was ecstatic, but that might not always be the best bet.
My family gets shirts from goodwill. Just picked them up today.

Victoria's Secret the gift that gives to you both, and if you don't know the correct size, guess down on everything but cup size, they can always be exchanged. If you don't have to gumption to pick stuff out they have fabulous gift cards. This will mark the first Christmas I have not included any gifts from Victoria's Secret becuase I splurged on a shiny gift.
Godiva Chocolate is always a good last minute gift for a female. $90 for a big box is pretty expensive, though.
Wife and I's present to each other is a heated mattress pad.
We are concentrating on family this year and decided not to get each other anything.
My go-to is always Pandora charms. My wife loves that crap. The bracelets are around $65 and then you add on charms that range from $30-$900. I started her off with the bracelet and one charm and every time I get stumped on a gift, she gets another charm.
Things that dont work:
Car parts.
RC Cars.
Porn.
Trashy lingerie.
Shake Weight.
