I have a whole bunch of books I no longer want. Where is the best place to sell them?
Unless you have some high value stuff, regular old novels and such are worth so little on the used market that youll spend more on gas to drive them to the book store than youll get.
True story: we hauled about 200# of grandmas books to the used book store nearby. Mostly Steele, Grisham, Patterson and some political Non-Fiction stuff. Got $11. The raw paper wouldve likely been worth more.
Side note: Any car stuff? You might do well to put a For Sale thread together here on the forums for topics that may do well with this crowd.
I've tried ebay to get rid of some of mine, and it's an exercise in futility. Car titles move okay, but I can sell them on here or other forums for free. General non-fiction is hit or miss. Fiction? Waste of time.
I usually wind up delivering a few boxes a year to the local library for their annual book sale (which is where I buy quite a few, actually). They get to make money, I get to rid myself of some books, and someone else gets a bargain. Win all around.

Kind of depends on where you are. When I was in Portland we had a book store called Powell's Books and they bought used books. I use to take boxes of books there all the time and get good amount of money back. One time I think I got $200 for a couple boxes.
Amazon. Seriously. Some people make good money buying used books at yard sales/goodwill/etc. and re-selling them on Amazon.

Yup, this. Look up every book by the ISBN on Amazon, it it's worth more than $3, then sell it there. Anything less, either bring in to a local used book store and/or the library. You'd be surprised at the relatively "common" fiction novels that are actually worth some $$.
My personal experience is that Sci-Fi really sells for the bucks, every used book store wants them. Anything else? not so much. BTW, went by one of the local bookstores and saw at least 5 or 6 old Vega repair manuals. I told a guy near me, "...from the looks of it, the repair manuals lasted longer than the Vega did."
