My dad has a nice little compac 16 with roller furling, bow sprit, tiny tiny tiny Honda 4 stroke outboard that's nearly new, nice trailer... lots of goodies. But I'm not sure where to list it. I don't know if Craigslist is the best place for a sailboat. Any ideas?
Joey
Nobody want nasty little sailboats, they want big powerboats with three outboards. You should just give me the compac and let me dispose of it for you.
CL is probably your best bet if priced under $5k.
From what I see, be sure to your CL listings has it written somewhere both as Compac and Com-Pac so you come up in more sesrches. Also include the words sail, sailing, and sailboat for an easy sort from powerboats.
I'd recommend listing it in multiple CL cities.
There is a Com-Pac owners assoc with a Classified section.
If nicer, newer and high dollar, then Yachtworld is the industry leading boat listing website.
Unlike Northern Cars, Northern Boats are more desirable than other locations. The main reason is that as a boat from the Great Lakes region, your boat has not been exposed to the harsh corrosion of salt water and the harsh exposures of southern climate sun.
Additionally, Great Lakes region boats are only used a few months out of the year so a 10 year old boat (which was used only 4 months per year) does not have nearly as much use and abuse as a southern boat which may have been used every month of the year.
If so, be sure to mention in the ad that the boat has never been exposed to salt water; always in and around Michigan.
I am interested and I am local. May I have pictures and a price?

Sure! We are going to clean her up probably this coming week. I'll send some pics over then
Excellent, my lady and I have a Hobie 16 that we love but we have discussed getting something that we could use to go on sailing/camping trips.
Is there a sailing club nearby? Bulletin board or their newsletter.

This is great for that. My dad and I camped in it before. The size of this boat is really good for trailering and set up. And we are just south of flint about 30 mins.
Compac 16s are great boats if you have the water depth for it (which isn't really that much.) They sail like much bigger boats stability and amenity-wise. You should post pics of it here so we can ogle it, even if Braden buys it!
Those are cool little boats. I'd buy if I had ready access to Lake Keowee. If braden doesn't buy it, check with all the sailing clubs in the area. They may have a bulletin broad, newsletter or web site.
Sailing Texas has boat ads for all over the US and seems to have good traffic.
Sailboat listings is another site.
Ok guys, early next week we will be pulling the boat out of storage and checking the sails over and such to make sure everything is seaworthy. I'll have lots of pics to share

Depends on what the boat is made of. Believe it or not, Wooden boats do better in salt water than Fresh. The salt keeps the wood from drying out and rotting more so than the Fresh
Yes, we need pictures.
Had a flyer of a compac 16 I would stare at growing up. Boat porn I would guess.
A few years later (2003), I bought a Catalina 22 which I have sailed/raced almost every weekend since.
So there she is! Needs a good cleaning. I'm airing out the cabin now, as she sat for a couple years in the barn. Fortunately had some barn cats so no signs of mice, but smells damp and gross. The 2 hp Honda 4 stroke (yes 4 stroke!) engine is near new. Only has a couple sailing trips on her, dad estimates less than 8 hours of running. Has a roller furling genoa sail, and a standard jib somewhere, dads digging it up now. He added the small bow sprit. Has a bow pulpit, but it's not compatible with roller furling. Has all sorts of goodies, even an autopilot for the tiller that will hold a compass heading that he had on his other boat and never installed on this one, though it is compatible. Depth finder, compass, lots of good stuff. Some fenders, paddle, couple life jackets. Danforth anchor, some other anchor as well.
Pilot Braden, you were first to show interest. Come on down and take a look, I live in holly. Shoot me a text at 248202sevenfiveseven3
We are thinking of asking 3,000, but are HIGHLY negotiable. Trade offers will be considered.
This thread is relevant to my interests. Anyone want to buy a 20' Tornado? Comes with trailer, aluminum mast and a carbon fiber mast.

For best results, try not to use the words damp and gross in your ad.

Thanks, but the whole family is moving on a bit from sailing
For the record I've known Joey and his father Joel for fifteen years. They tend to do things at the next higher standard but downplay them as not good enough. I trust them both more than nearly anyone. Somebody will get a great deal on this boat.
I will text you this afternoon. It looks nice.
