I've tried to send a couple of members messages through the site. I have no idea if anyone has received them as I've never gotten a response.

Has anyone gotten this feature to work or am I just a complete computer illiterate old man?

Different email providers treat emails differently.  Your hopeful friends might not have seen theirs.

I've caught some because I check my junk from time to time, Outlook and I don't always agree on junk.

My email from this board goes to an old junk email account that I don't check unless I'm expecting something.

Like a burner account.

Perhaps that's what's going on.

To be clear, here's how to do it.  As others said, sometimes emails aren't monitored or they go to spam.  Its a crap shoot, really.  Best bet is to comment in a thread and let them know you sent a PM to them

Do this:

Click a username

Click the contact button

Type out your message and hit send

The problem is that all emails sent through the forum arrive in the recipient's inbox with a return address of robot@mg.grassrootsmotorsports.com. It looks like spam. It doesn't identify the sender.

Most people don't like responding to an email that says it's from "robot".

When I send an email, I try to include my username in the body of the text. Not sure if it helps or not...

About 95% of the time I've gotten one it went to spam and unless I knew it was coming I wouldn't have seen it.

Yeah, private messages being sent as emails that look like spam is one of the... um... quirks of the GRM forum.

If the reason for reaching out was prompted by something in a thread, it can be helpful to reply to them in the thread and let them know you've sent something their way.

Also, it depends on what the sender's email domain is.  Some of the older spam-abused systems like maybe yahoo or hotmail get filtered by the PM system.  Or at least they used to.
