I have to move some items from charleston SC to the Baltimore area for storage and I'm wondering if you guys have ever used u-ship?
Background: I'm moving out of my house soon and will be taking a job in a leadership rotation program with a large company in Connecticut. We won't be buying a house for about 2 years and will be moving from every 8 months. I don't plan on using my tools in that time because I will have no where to work and "hopefully" nothing to work on. I'm shipping my rollaway, miter saw, some miscellaneous items like sawhorses, car jack and stands, a couple more small tool boxes, and a few boxes with a sander, sawzall in them.
As a GRM member I'm trying to find the most economical way to get this done. Any suggestions. I am not getting a rental truck for this move, normally I'd just take the junk in a truck, but the job does not start until June 1st.. so I will be transient until then. I'll be using ABF Freight Relo-Cubes for the real move. Cheap and they can be stored for month or so at not a great expense.
Anyone going that way in the next few weeks? ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/laugh-18.png)

What about those PODS things? You know, they drop off a container, you pack the sucker, and then they'll store it for however long and ship it to wherever you move. Seems like it was made for you. IIRC, it stands for "Portable On Demand Storage".
Never looked at them.. will do. The ABF freight relo cube I guess is kinda the same thing, but I don't know what to do with my tools. I don't want to sell them and I'll want them in 2 years when I move into a house.

i puit mine in a storage unit until we got a house. It was like Christmas morning pulling out my long lost tools and setting them up again.
POD FTMFW that's what I'm doing for deployment
I think I'm going to use ABF U-Pack for the moving of my household goods. It's slightly cheaper. Check out the Relo-Cubes http://www.upack.com/moving-services/moving-container.asp
I'm going to CT, but my tools are going to my buddies place in MD and I'm trying to figure out how to get them there. It'd be $949 to get them there with a relo-cube(ABF) and $1200(PODS). Seems like a bit much, I was just looking to find a cheaper way.
Have your buddy come down and pick them up? He is getting to use your tools for the next 2 years for free.

Tried that. His wife is in practicals for being an Occupational Therapist and that means nearly 20 hour days. He works full time and has to take care of 2 kids.
The thing about U-ship that scares me is the propensity for scamulation just like ebay. Except with uship its a reverse bid, you select the company. If they are reputable your stuff shows up. If not you gave some dude your junk and he runs away with it.

Is it me or are the canoe pilots getting better, they now seem to have the skill and nevre of a band of Somali pirates
Where in CT? Can you stuff it in the your hoisehold goods? I live on LI and would possibly be able to help out depending where in CT it would be in.
Too bad, you missed me by about a month, I was down in Charleston dropping off that car, could have through it on for my return trip,
DOH!..
I'll be in Hartford, I believe.
if it will all fit in my crew cab pick up 8' bed, hartford to baltimore could be done for 350.00. If I need to use my trailer, mileage drops and tolls go up, so it would be more. You'd be welcome to come along for the ride if you like. Could do it on a weekend if that helps you and your buddy.
