While I agree with the cords across a workbench problem, another way around that is to mount a power strip on the front underside of the bench. I did that in my ex's house. Definitely helped.

I guess that's personal preference. Dragging an extension cord out, unwinding it, rewinding it and putting it away again after every job sounds like more hassle to me than potentially dealing with a clothesline for the short time I'm working out there.
A couple of properly placed cord reels can reach every spot in my shop and about 20ft out of each overhead door. They make short jobs easy, and prevent them from becoming longer jobs than they need to be.

I didn't say to NOT have a cord reel. I said my preference by the door was a low outlet.
I had both in my shop. I rarely used the cord reel outside the door.
