These came up in one of the watch threads probably a year or more ago, but i can't remember what they were called, or what brand made them. I want to say Seiko, but i can't find them on Amazon.
Like this, but a much simpler face, just a simple 3-hand clock.

Woven nylon/cloth band, not metal links or leather.
Like this, but under $50.

I had the Seiko 5 of which you speak. Put it on a nice oiled leather band. My wife took it :)
Maybe to help you narrow the styles- here's a shot of some WWII era Hamiltons

the spec is called a-11, and quite a few of the suggested ones are very, very close.
They look good (the suggested ones, I mean)
This may be my next watch, just have to convince the wive.

My daily watch lately has been a Seiko5--not a military one, but still a Seiko5. I still like it.

I bought my first G-Shock 20 years ago. Over the winter the 3rd battery went dead and the idiot at the mall watch place lost some random spring. My sister bought me a new solar+atomic G-shock and I wear it daily. They are a little more than $50, but I know casio has some other great watches in your price range. I personally like this watch: http://www.amazon.com/CASIO-MW600F-2AV-Sport-Watch-Black/dp/B004D35W8A/ref=pd_sbs_watch_5?ie=UTF8&refRID=1B8EP61CXGAGK05CBNMF

Only once a day on military time.
Here's mine on its brown leather band. I also have the 805 it's green cousin, which comes on a nice green canvas band.
18mm bands are pretty cheap on the web, I swap between the leather and a few natos. Next purchase is likely a gulf livery NATO for the black one, and I'm looking for an interesting dial in blue and white for the green one as my first mod project.
I like the size for my smaller wrists, the simplicity, and the brush finished case.
This isn't military style but you can't get more direct and simple than a Casio F-91W. I rock one of these all day every day. Dirt cheap as well:

I had a Seiko 5 like the one above but it was too twitchy and ran too fast.

I have a Timex Expedition that I bought about 4 years ago. It was cheap and fit the bill for a tough, disposable watch. It has survived 3 deployments, water and sand. I wear it everyday. The bezel is beat up and the band needs to be replaced but it keeps ticking. It has a small bezel for a man's watch which is great because I have really small wrists. Big watches look like I'm wearing a sundial ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/whatthe-18.png)

I think modern military style is a Casio G-shock. I'm pretty sure that's what I saw on my brother-in-law's wrist, and he's not exactly a desk jockey. Spent his time jumping out airplanes with his artillery. It's what gets the job done.
But we don't always want what gets the job done ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/wink-18.png)
If you are thinking the old wind up style it is the Timex Camper.

I owned and wore a Seiko 5 for the last two years. It showed me the utility of a wrist watch even when you have a clock on your phone and computer. This one:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00H3WT928/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I put a tan leather band on it after year one and it looks great.
I moved on to an Invicta because I like the look.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HLVH1GW/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
If you watch Amazon closely you'll see some stellar deals. I bought the Seiko and the Invicta for around $30 a piece.

Sadly, this thread is not the return of SFO. However, I have seen him about the Montero section of ExPo.

I've been trying to lure him back for years. No luck.
Timely canoe, actually.
I just got this Hamilton which is a replica of their WWII A-11 spec watch. ![](https://s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/prod.mm.com/uploads/2019/01/07/1546893111_958cfb4d-4e39-4749-a292-e00ed56dc2b5_mmthumb.jpeg)
