Saw Slayer this weekend. Wow.
Heh, the afternoon rock DJ on one of the Philly stations has a female co-producer who does a rock news segment every day. He tries to get as many Slayer references in as possible. Sometimes he resorts to just shouting "SLAYER!" as she's signing off.
They are a great live band for sure. I've seen them numerous times with the original lineup, and they killed it!
I'm a little off-put on how they handled the exit of Dave Lombardo though. Not to knock Paul Botsaph, but Lombardo should be in Slayer. How did Gary Holt do up there?

I also haven't been thrilled by the drama, but I have to give them their due. The show rocked.
Suicidal sounded great, and nice to see Eric Moore still behind the drums. I thought he was leaving the band, but he was there. At the end of the set, he was walking around the stage and banging on a cymbal. Plus the guy knows how to wear a flip cap. Mike Morgan has replaced the dearly departed Tim Williams on bass and also did a great job. We saw Suicidal earlier this year, and the past two shows have been their strongest in like 20 years. The set list mixed in lots of earlier stuff, too, but not "Institutionalized."
To be honest, I don't know Exodus's stuff that well. Still, amazing that Gary Holt is doing double duty.
honestly, i haven't really kept up with Suicidal since they got away from the "metal" thing from the late 80's and early 90's and went more funky, but i've heard that they are getting harder again... which might explain how they can hang with the SLAYER crowd.. last time i saw them in concert was in 97 at First Avenue in Minneapolis where i got to shake Mike Muirs's hand and thank him for writing How Will I Laugh Tomorrow... never seen SLAYER yet- but want to.. and Exodus is just one of those fun thrash bands that make good background noise once in a while..
