Long story short, somebody I love very much puked in my Miata Friday night coming home from a party. We removed the passenger seat and cleaned up everything manually and them used some water with a little laundry detergent to scrub, but there's still a lingering scent of sour stomach - blech.
Luckily the leather seats cleaned up easy, but the carpet remains the scent vault. What can I do to get it out?

Sprinkle carpet with baking soda and vacuum/reapply a couple times?

Much easier than removing carpet and pressure washing. That works too!

Yeah, I'd try what EvanB said. If that doesn't work, how much is new carpet haha?
My friend has a three bay euro car repair shop and sells a car now and then. Some come through smelling like puke and rancid chocolate milk (kids).
He has an ozone generator that he sticks in the window and lets run while the car's heater system is on. As I understand it, ozone is O3, three electrons; it's running around through life looking for another electron to be an even number. It sticks to the smell, removing it. If you jump in the car right after this treatment some people get a slight headache, but it works.
Check your local Rent-All to see if you can rent one, if not; try a detail shop.

two hints from a dad who has had to clean up an incredible ammount of blood, puke, vomit, pee, etc.. in his day.

The enzyeme cleaners used to clean up pet stains work very well.

Bissell littel green clean machine is awesome.
Take seat out, thoroughly steam clean and dry area. The stuff will pool somewhere and harden, sadly I know this. Find where it pooled and chisel it away.

I have one of those Bissell Spot Cleaners and they work great.
Plus Baking Soda - use it liberally - 1/2" or more thick. Vacuum out when done.

Someone once told me to do this with dried, used coffee grounds...

I thought that was only for smuggling drugs.
I dumped a box of baking soda on it this morning. I'll let it sit all day and vacuum when I get home.

once upon a time dinner didn't work with me and i puked in my van, while trying to get the window down in time. hit glass, down into door, all over door panel, some on carpet. i drove right to the car wash and blasted it out. for the carpet i then backed up to the vacuum after i blasted as much as i could out the door. did the same in my truck when i was trying to get to work sick.
