About the only time I watch baseball on TV is the world (USA world) series. This has been a great mix of pretty good pitching, good defense and mediocre batting.

The error in the 8th changed the games tone and took the fans out of it which appears to be exactly what the Royals play to.

the mediocre batting is what the Royals do … they sit on anyones fastball and JUST make contact .. they aren't the old Yankee's "murders row" or even the modern Mets that try to over power you with long ball … they continually put the ball in play … which in turn puts a lot more stress on a teams defense … it payed off this time with a Billy Buckner type oops … that seemed to change the complexion of the game .. but even then, all the Mets had to do was get the next out and they would/could still have tied up the series

it'll be interesting watching todays game to see how Edinson Volquez (as a known emotionally affected player) can channel his emotions after burying his Father this past week

while the Mets may well be beaten already, it'll also be interesting to see how they handle the error, and the unbelievably stupid base running mistake of Yoenis Cespedes … don't know where his head was … there was nowhere for him to go … a runner in front of him … less than 2 outs … just a mental berkeley up

You know, people keep saying it was horrible base running. I'm not sold on it. It was a double play ball either way. Cespedes, if he had dodged the tag better would have made them throw to first or second. Execution wasn't great, but the idea wasn't a bad one--waste time getting them to tag, or try to tag him, and breaking up the double play. Same idea as a guy intentionally getting in a pickle between first and second to let the guy on third score.

Fouling off 8 or 9 pitches isn't mediocre batting- its spectacular. Counting on big hitters isn't easy, but any big leaguer can get the bat in front of the ball fairly often. KC manufactures runs. They win because of it.

different play … the one I'm referring to is the line drive to the shortstop .. and he got doubled off at first … he was half/2/3's of the way to second … with a runner in front of him that was returning to second … he had A) no place to go (second was occupied) and B) shouldn't have been that far off the bag to start with …

the one to which you're referring WAS a well executed base running play … try to extend the play to the point that the batter actually makes it to first safely

I hate to say it, but KC just played better ball.

That pretty much sums it up right there.

Great series by KC.

Looks like Murphy in this series took away a lot of the boost he had given to his next signing bonus.

Is this the part where I get to say "Told ya"?

No question KC earned it!

I think the KC hitting coach needs a raise. First two times through the order, lots of strikeouts. Third time, foul, foul, foul, base hit. I can't really remember a time where "Good pitching will beat good hitting" applied any less than this series.
