And man, did it ever whip me. But the good news is that I really enjoyed it. I hate working out in the gym; I hate running; and I hate "power classes". Of course, being surrounded by god's gift, the Lulu short, certainly helps matters.

Anyone else do it?

I haven't found it around me. Friend from far away does it and loves it. Seems quite good from what I've read,

I used to do this on a weekly basis then fell out of the habit. It was a real kick in the backside at first, and I'm not at all flexible, so a lot of things asked of the group I couldn't do very well... but I enjoyed it, and the amazing "runner's high" that came afterward.

Just make sure to not over-do it when you're starting out, but it sounds like things went pretty well on your first outing, so you're probably going to be fine.

Hot yoga is incredible, especially if you already have a workout program. After a while, you're as flexible as you were as a kid, and all those horrible aches and pains disappear. It's hard as hell though.

I've done it on and off (Bikram Yoga) for the past 5 years or so. I like it.

I don't go more often because I have two issues with it:

1) Its expensive.
2) It consumes crazy amounts of time. Drive to class, get there 10 mins early + 90 min class + 10 mins to shower/clean up + drive home = more than 2 hours of my free time. At my normal gym, I can get there, run 4 or 5 miles and then do a full crossfit class in the same amount of time.

BUT, while there are some attractive girls doing crossfit, rarely are there as many as yoga, and they are not as encouraged to wear pretty much nothing. :(

It was also a little humorous when a girl would show up for her first hot yoga session... wearing sweat pants and a sweat shirt. They usually wouldn't make it through that first session without leaving for the much cooler lobby. Didn't see to many of them come back after that.

Kind of sad, in a way, but who wants to do the eastern version of jumping jack routines, in 90F+ heat, in a sweat shirt? Not sure what they expected really.

Slight difference between "hot" and Bikram: "hot" is just yoga done in a hot room and can be any temperature the instructor decides - usually 95-100. Bikram is very strictly 105deg and 40% humidity (and the postures/sequence are strict as well).

Every Bikram class I've been to where someone shows up wearing anything more than the bare minimum (pun intended), the instructor tells them before class "You may want to take off some clothes, or come back dressed for the temperature" :)

Ok -- today was an Ashtanga class. Not as crazy as the Hot Yoga, but probably a good follow up to yesterdays. Still much more enjoyable to me than a gym workout.

It is expensive -- it appears that it is a license to print money, especially in an university town. I have an unlimited pass for the month. We shall see how it progresses. I will aim for four to five times per week.

The time is a factor, but I'm on my summer break now, so it isn't as major a concern.

I sweat like it is a super-power. In a 7 mile run on a hot day, I'll lose a gallon of water. Like, seriously... 6-8lbs before/after. I would love to be more flexible but do not want to fill the entire fit population of town with complete disgust. Do the floors have drains?

It seems like it'd be a solid money maker but one of the three hot yoga studios in my village of ~300,000 people closed about nine months ago. I think there has to be a solid flow of people in and out or the utility bills, rents etc etc makes it hard to operate.

You stand on a towel... or two... or three. Its not uncommon to completely soak all of them. Nobody will be disgusted.

I am seriously considering yoga, as my I flexibility is starting to contribute to weighlifting and running injuries.

How do you Guys suggest I start? I can't afford classes.

If you just want to give it a shot, most Yoga studios have a free 1st class and a 1 week pass for like $15.

When I was attending the Y regularly, I'd do weight and strength classes, boot camp and yoga, all for a monthly fee. I couldn't believe how my flexibility improved – I think everyone should do yoga!
