Sometimes my pack rat tendencies pay off. Years ago I helped rehab a house for our church to use as a rest stop for traveling missionaries. In one of the closets I found a bag of old slides. I love history, so I tossed the bag in my garage and told myself I'd scan them one day. Today I came across the bag and started looking at the slides. Mostly boring stuff like family reunions and picnics, but then a new trend appeared....a construction site. Odd, who takes pictures of an old construction site....HOLY CRAP THAT IS CINDERELLA'S CASTLE!!
Yup, they are photos of the construction of Disney World! I grabbed these quick photos with my phone using an antique slide viewer, but I'll be scanning the slides properly soon. Luckily I spent a year running a high end slide scanner at a graphics shop, so these should turn out awesome.
I know there are some hard core Disney history buffs out there, so I want to make sure these get preserved. My favorite shot is the one of the Admiral Joe Fowler at dry dock, and along the canal you can see the metal track that guides it. Awesome.

Disney's not going to have any money left after this week.
That is absolutely awesome!! If you wouldn't mind sharing once they're scanned, I'd love to have a copy. I'm one of those hard core Disney nuts. In fact, I'm leaving in just a few hours for a super long vacation down there. Van is all packed and heading out shortly. Super excited.

Very cool. We just got back from a ten day stay with the mouse. Our kids are now 22 and 19 but they enjoyed it every bit as much as they did when they were younger.
So there's hope for the rest of us packrats? Because these are, awesome.
Those are pretty darn cool. Nice find

This is the exact opposite of what a pack rat like me needed to find. I have all kinds of stuff squirreled away to go through "some day". All my stuff is fairly tidy, no hoarding piles, just random boxes and totes. But now that I found these I'm itching to dig into an old trunk that was left in our house when we moved it.
I shouldn't' be shocked, when I cleaned the previous owner's junk out of the garage I found a civil war era cannon shell. Weird stuff finds me.
In my world, I've rationalized a difference between a packrat and a hoarder. I don't save bits of string. (Yet)

the gator was unaffiliated with Disney. it was a gator, doing the gator stuff that gators do.
Very very cool! Do share more once they are scanned!

You got some great pictures AND they were way less horrifying than they could've been! Awesome!

I'd love to say that I paid for our family's next Disney trip by selling pictures of it being built.

hahahahahhaha yea right. They'll just tack another $10 to the tickets. ANd they have insurance. 50 million people went there last year.
BTW they probably could not build Disney World now because of the wetlands and streams they would have to impact.
